I just got a ryukin goldfish from the petstore like five days ago and he is only about 1 1/2 inches in length. I have read that the fish you get at the store are babies, and since they grow so big i was just wondering if there is any way to tell how old he is...or has anyone out there kept goldfish and knows at what age they are usually that length? He is from walmart if that matters since they may purchase their goldfish at a universal age. And pls spare me the comments about how walmart is terrible and he will die...my last walmart fish lived 4 years in a bowl (before i knew any better) and in fact i have had better luck with walmart than petsmart:) Besides he is doing just wonderful and is happy and active, his name is cetus:P So please only serious answers from ppl who can help me with his age. Can you give the story behind it?

My cats name is Mewes. I named him after the actor Jason Mewes who plays Jay in the Kevin Smith movies. Clerks, Dogma, Mallrats... I always liked his character and him as a person. We also plan if we get to get another cat or if we get a dog to name it Lunchbox, which is one of Kevin Smith's nicknames. I am a huge Kevin Smith fan/ Nerd!

Okay so I am planning on upgrading my tanks in about a month and in two days I am going to get more fish so they can "ajust" to eachother while they are young.I want opinions about the fish in my tanks such as if you think they will get along,am I overcrowding,and if you think I have a cool combo of fish!)
First tank is a 2.5g with 2 ghost shrimps,1 sunset platy,1 orange fancy guppy,1 lyre tail guppy,and 1 zebra danios(all male).I am going to add 1 sunset platy,1 fancy guppy,and 3-4 ghost shrimp(all female).I will then upgrade the tank to 5.5g.I know the fish might breed so I will have a 2.5g for the fry incase.Do you think this is a good combonation?
Tank 2 is a 10.38g with two australian rainbows,2 peppered corydoras,and 1 otocinclus I am going to add 1 albino corydoras and 1 clown plecostomus.They will then be upgraded to a 20g tank.Good combonation?
(Remember I just want opinions! I have already read up on these fish but you cant trust everything you read!)

I have this new betta I got from walmart. It seems pretty happy. Its got bubbles all over the waters surface. One day I've looked at his biggest fin ( the one at the back ) and it looked like it was missing little parts. It also had a small red outline that looked a lot like blood. Is he bititng his fins because of malnutriteon? ( I feed him 4-5 pellets every day). Whats up?

My fry are at the wriggler stage and soon will be free swimming.
I have a fluval fitler and im worried that the fry might swim into the filter.(i put filter on lowest setting)

will they be ok or should i put a stocking over the filter

Sorry, long story, but important.

My ex-baby sitter has a dog that attacked me while he was loose on the street (over a week ago). He barely scraped my lip with his bite, but wouldn't back down...the neighbor had to help me fight him off. The other neighbor came out, asked her to do something about the dog that keeps getting out of the fence, she's been attacked twice...she's pregnant. I called the humane society, mainly beause she's trying to run a home day care and can't control her dog. They haven't stopped calling me since, they tell me "he's actually a good dog, the neighbor lied to you"...etc, etc. They won't stop calling. I received a call today, she said, "hope you're happy they killed my dog over that tiny scratch...hope you have a clean conscious". Anyway, I assume they do a temper test on dogs before they put them down or something...help...help

My dog at half of a chicken bone!!!! My kittens have not even been outside but yet they are infested with fleas! They have been recieving treatment with frontline and also are wearing flea collars we also spray them with flea killer!! I run the comb through them constantly and are finding ridiculous amounts!! PLEASE HELP!!!!

I've been feeding my 3 betta fish 2 pellets of Sanyu Betta Gold every other day and I've had them for maybe 3 months now. At first, 2 of them used to eat the food really quickly, and the other would take it's time, but now all 3 eat their food as soon as it's in the water. i have a single male betta and whenever i glance over to his tank, his face is all puffy. its as if to make himself look bigger. i think this may be a sign of aggression, but i only have one betta. so why is he acting like he is getting ready to fight? does this mean something else?

I just recently moved and I feel happy but I feel sad. I was living with my parents and I couldnt take it anymore. I am about 5 months pregnant and I have birds( parakeets) and I feel so sad that I cant take them with me. My bf keep telling me that you cant have a newborn with pets. And it really hurt me because I had one of my birds for over 10 years and the other for about 7/8 years- its hard to part with them. I just wonder if it is true that I cant have my birds there with me. I love them to death. And this move is such bitter sweet

My In laws dog is 13. He's gotten very aggressive to the point where the ffamily has to be very careful when handling him. My MIL babysits 3 kids under 2, including my 19 month old, who he tried to attack, luckily she came out with a light scratch. He also attacked my 4 yr old niece, if it wasnt for her shoe she'd probably have 4 toes. Both of these attacks were unprovoked and vicious. He is tied up most of the time becauce it's gotten so bad. My MIL want to put him to sleep because of he's violent (heaven forbid something serious happens to her or one of the kids) and also because she doesnt want him to spend the rest of his days tied up on a 4 foot leash, his breed lives to be about 13-14, plus he preffers to be inside and cries when outside. But eveyone feels bad because they've had him since '95 and he is, to our knowledge, healthy. Do you think its right that they put him to sleep.

My dog has allergies and the skin around his eyes is tender and swollen. He keeps scratching and rubbing at his eyes and they are now raw. The vet recommended an e-collar, but I am hoping there is an alternative.

I need something that would cover his eyes so that he won't scratch, but will still allow him to eat and play-- he's only a year old. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I was going to keep my 4 month old kitten indoors, and train him into a housecat, but I do think its slightly cruel, especially as I have a small place. So how can I let him out in the morning when I go to work, and train him to come home when I get back at 5! He has a fav toy which I can rattle when I get home, to call him but how can I begin to teach him that this noise is his home time? and what if he doesnt come, i'd be gutted if I lost him!

I live in New England and in August it gets really yucky hot. I am bringing home my 10 week home puppy next week and its probably going to be in the 90's for the couple of weeks. I live in a 2nd floor apartment and while the air conditioners are on, it only cools off to around 70's. I am concerned that crate training him will be bad for his health. Are there any alternatives that might keep him cooler or any tricks to keep him comfortable in the crate?

She just went into heat yesterday.

I have never delt with a dog in heat that lives in the house. All my dogs have always been outdoor dogs. So I know I am going to go get her some of the diapers today on my lunch break.

A little more info for you. She is a 3 year old Miniature Dauchsand. So this isn't the first time she has been in heat, it just happens I just got her last week.

But I would like to have her spayed before she goes into heat the next time.
