Can I ask my vet to trim my dogs nails really short past the quik? They are super super long and her toes twist on the floor. I have had them trimmed but they grow unbelieveably fast. I am wondering if the vet can cut them really short while she is unconscious and control the bleeding. Then I can keep them trimmed more regularly while they are at a reasonable length. She does not like me to touch her nails so I think that her toes hurt or something...she actually snarls at me if I try to trim them. The vet trims them just barely because of the quik and it will take months I think to trim them that way, plus cost me an arm and leg....what do you all think?

I just got my second guinea pig, a friend for my first. My first is 4-5 months old, and the second (new) is 3-4 - i was curious what the good and bad signs are that they will be fine together in a cage. They've been seperated now for a week, and play together 4 times a day in the bathtub ( which is covered in towels and tunnels and toys). They seem to get along fine, but theres jumps and a few nips (i think they are nips but i can't tell). What are warning signs that they will not be good mates? THey are both female. And, when is a good time to put them together in the main cage? I was thinking about putting the new one in a few times a day with the first one, and see how that goes. Or should I just put the second one in, and not take her out once she's in? There's lots of sites out there on what to do- but i can't find an answer that i'm happy with.

I'm so glad to have her, but sometimes I need a moment to get other things done. As soon as "play" stops, she whines and follows me around. I don't want to get mad. I just ignore her while I'm on the internet or cleaning the kitchen. But, she expects playtime ALL the time. Are there other toys out there that entertain animals in other ways besides "chewing"???

My Vet has given him steriod injections which helped for a couple of weeks, and now a course of steriod tablets. He has alway's been very healthy, and energetic, but this has all changed suddenly. He is not eating well and does not move about much, prefering to lie and sleep rather than go for a walk. Does anyone know of any herbal treatments of supplements that we could try to help him.

The vet said that they found evidence of toxins in her lungs. I am now questioning common household cleaners. Has anyone else lost a pet due to this?

I've always had cats when I was a kid, but was thinking of getting a dog in the future. What breeds tend to have the most friendly personality, are easiest to train and don't need constant attention since I live alone and work during the day?

I neutered my cat two days ago and on the phamplet they send home w/you it says if the cat licks the area in which the incision was done to put a cone around their head so they can't lick it. My questions is how long do I have to leave this cone on him?? On the phamplet it says to use shredded paper instead of cat litter for three days and not to let them outside for a week. I can't decide if I should wait three days or a week because of what the phamplet says. Anyone have any idea???

I am picking up my new puppy tonight! I am curious if anyone has suggestions on the best toys for boxers, and more importantly, ones to avoid. Thanks!

My dog is a West Highland White Terrier and she is 3 years old. Eversince she was a puppy she's barks at the TV the moment she sees any animal. I've tried turning off the TV but she will continue barking until she eventually forgets about what she was barking at in the first place. How do I teach her this is wrong in a humane matter? When she does this is it an act of stupidity or intelligence? Any help would be great.

I have tried to show him by eating a bit myself, but he flies away when I try and give him it. I've put it in his cage, but he just ignores it. I have to take it out before it goes off because he never touches it.
