The vet said that they found evidence of toxins in her lungs. I am now questioning common household cleaners. Has anyone else lost a pet due to this?

Yes,I lost 2 Beautiful Tiny Pomeranian puppies very un expectedly. They were here in the den with me almost all the time.I had Mom and babies under foot at all times. They were just beginning to eat ,I knew I had done everything I knew was right for both them and mom.I began worming ,Just a drop at 1 week and mom her regular dose. They were begining to thrive and getting really fat, fluffy, and active.I had begun the weaning process.Anyway they were around 5-6 weeks old just doing great. One morning I got up to check on them and one was already dead,no apparent reason?Within a few hours the next one was dead, just kinda foamed at the mouth and layed down and died.I could not believe it I was devastated.I took them to the vet and had him send them off for nartopsy ,which I hated to do but I thought I would learn from a mistake that I had made.Guess what it came back killed by a Swiffer Mop Type Toxin.I don't own a Swifer Mop.I racked my brain for days and finally remembered that the crate I had them in was canvace and not long before the pups came along I cleaned the canvas with Mr Clean. As a rule I use only clorox for cleaning all things I use with my babies but this canvas was a hunter Green and I was afraid I would Bleach it and make it look really tacky.I rinsed and rinsed and I only used a dilut amount to clean the crate but evidently I had left a grain or 2 in the crate that were saurated and the pups not knowing anybetter had to eat them.I feed Eucanuba small bite and this was a tiny, tiny morsel but it had to be that.I spoke with vet and the people that did the Nartopsy and they agreed that had to be what it was.Who new something so popular would be so deadly. So sorry to hear about your loss.Maybe this will help you elliminate some things in your home that might have poisoned her.And if you get another dog you will know not to have these products around.I am sure it was a horrible accdent ,as was mine.I am so sorry for your loss.......That has been several years ago and I am not sure about the spelling of the dog Autopsy,Thank god I have only had these two unexpected deaths in 16 yrs. Of breeding tiny babies.

I've lost 2 dogs in my lifetime. I can't say any of them have died from this tragedy. There are many cleaners that can poison animals. Keeping all cleaners and products that may be harmful in an isolated cabinet is the best idea. Try to avoid using any of these products around them. For example, if you put fertilizer in your backyard make sure you let your dog go in the frontyard for a few days until you think it is safe. I'm sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose a pet. I understand.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog...It is pretty common to lose a pet due to household cleaners. But try to prevent that happening to another one of your pets. Put one of those locks that are made for babies to prevent them from getting into cabinets, and store anything that is toxic in the upper cabinets of your house, if possible.

I'm so sorry to hear about your best friend 's passing. I hope you are doing, Ok! And yes household cleaners are very bad for dogs and cats, like pine sol, orange-glow and bleaches. They strip the mucus membrane's in the animals lungs and their nostrils. It even can cause some form of cancers in animals. My thoughts will be with you, at this time.!

My dog died yesterday and it is normal to think of different reasons why it happened. The best thing you can do is let it go and atleast he is now resting in peace. My dog died from complications due to heartworm treatment and he was fine for 2 months and all of a sudden developed water in his heart and lungs. Now I keep thinking we did something wrong or the vet did something wrong but really it is to late anyway's. Just remember the good times you had with him or her and keep him or her in your heart forever. I know how you feel and it's horrible. Good luck and I hope you find peace.

Well not a dog but I had a cat that got under my sink and got into some kind of cleaner and his paws swelled and he died a few days later.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. Pets become a very important part of your family. They are great because they can always tell when something is wrong and offer a comforting friend when you need one.

I hope you feel better

I've had several dogs to die.
Most form old age.
The point where they start wandering off on a extended basis from week to week until they finally don't come home one day.
Dogs do this because they love you and it is their way of letting you know they are soon to die of old age.
I feel and share your sorrow.
So now clean your house **** and span and your car, start saving up old news papers and go get yourself a new little personality to share your life with.

Sorry to hear about your dog.

I have not seen a dog die from common household fumes. I would consult the vet and ask them to be more specific for you.

There are certain household cleaners and plants that are very hazardous to their health. Go to any dog website to find out what they are when and if you decide to get yourself another dog.
