I just got my second guinea pig, a friend for my first. My first is 4-5 months old, and the second (new) is 3-4 - i was curious what the good and bad signs are that they will be fine together in a cage. They've been seperated now for a week, and play together 4 times a day in the bathtub ( which is covered in towels and tunnels and toys). They seem to get along fine, but theres jumps and a few nips (i think they are nips but i can't tell). What are warning signs that they will not be good mates? THey are both female. And, when is a good time to put them together in the main cage? I was thinking about putting the new one in a few times a day with the first one, and see how that goes. Or should I just put the second one in, and not take her out once she's in? There's lots of sites out there on what to do- but i can't find an answer that i'm happy with.

what you need to do, is to gradually increase their playtime together in the tub. this will get them more and more used to each other. then, one day, maybe in 2 weeks or so, place your cavvies in the tub, and when you take them out, place the old one in the new ones cage and vice-versa. this way, they will get used to each other's scent. Then, after a week in each other's cages, place them in the tub. have someone else supervise them. then, you scrub down, and i mean SCRUB DOWN the cage you will be keeping them in. scrub it until there is no possible chance of any scent. then place them in, they should probably be fine on neutral ground. expect a little fighting, this is just establishing dominence, but anything that isn't to serious is normal. just keep an eye on them. im sure they will become fast friends.

hope this helps.

maximum adult males are territorial and could be aggressive, distinctly to youthful adult males, however you may get fortunate and function one that may no longer aggressive. one way that i've got presented guinea pigs to new ones is through putting all of them in a great section the place they could walk around and are available during one yet another on their own and sniff one yet another and each little thing on their own. The older one will just about surely chatter at the two youthful ones or maybe attempt to mount them however the biggest element is to observe for biting. i think of the cage is in all probability somewhat too small however, what ought to be a mind-blowing thought is to get a 2nd cage for the hot ones to be in and positioned it next to the older pig's cage.

2 female guinea pigs will get along just fine!
having 2 males together isn't good.
You will have nips and jumps as they learn who is the domanite one, and they are still youngsters.....so a lot of jumping and little flips and runs are normal. :-)

Hand feed them lot's of carrots and a little lettuce and a sprig of parsely for me!

I've had Guinea Pigs all my life!
I love thier little squeak!
I even had a cocker spaniel who would hear the pig squeak, run to the fridge, I'd give the puppy the carrot and he'd go have the pig take it from his mouth! too cute!

Join them together now!
Oh joy!

SQUEAK!!!!
