Sorry for your loss. :( Nothing can replace a faithful friend and companion. It is exactly like loosing a member of one's family. I agree with mckenziecalhoun though. Volunteering at a shelter, can help you feel good about helping a animal in need. It will Honor the memory of your beloved dog, and you will reap the satisfaction of seeing a happy wagging tail. Maybe you will meet your new dog there. Or you could adopt a pet from petfinder.com. They have many lovely dogs, cats etc.. that are looking for their forever family. It takes time to get over the loss of a pet, it is pain full, but someday you Willl be able to talk about your friend without being crying or tearing up. You will laugh and smile and remember all the wonderful times you shared together. I wish you love, peace, and happiness, and hope you wil find a special pet someday.

=(( I am very sorry for your loss, I know how it can hurt to lose a four legged friend. Just give yourself some time to get used to the loss and after a while look up your local humane society on line and see what dogs they have up for adoption. A new dog will never replace the one that you lost but they will fill the empty space left in your heart and life. Good luck.

And to try to get happier, think of all the the good times that your faithful companion gave you and you gave them and look at the pictures that you have of him/her I hope that will make you feel better instead of make the pain that you are already in worse. I hope that I helped you some in your time of need.

Practically speaking, you've made, over the years, part of your identity based on your dog.
He's gone, and now there's a hole.
Fill it. Spend time at the pound/animal shelter volunteering. Help at the local animal museum by volunteering. They won't mind if you explain you are doing it for a while due to losing your pet. They'll probably think its a wonderful way to help, and won't mind when you finally say goodbye (if you do).
Spend time helping those you love. It's like any wound, it heals best when surrounded by the things that feed the healthy flesh around it.

Love your dog, forever. Let heal the desire to have them by your side, and the expectation that an injustice has been done.

Make your memory of them one of joy, not suffering, for every moment you spend unhappy is forever attached to any memory you have of your pet, and your love for them.

Not the memory I want you to keep. Do you? No, you wouldn't ask the question if you did.

Holes are filled by the surrounding earth. Find it. Dig around in it. Friends, family, helping others.

I don't think much of anything will make you feel better. Maybe if you just think about the times that you had with your dog and think about how much fun you two had together.
Over time you will be able to talk about your dog more and be able to go throughout your day without thinking about missing your dog but thinking about what a better place your dog is in now. And maybe in time you could even get a new dog, you know not to replace him but to have some more fun memories with. This might sound stupid but a new dog might also help if you could talk to about your old dog to him. It might start to release the pressure. I hope you fell better and I sure hope this works.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I understand what you are going through. A year and a half ago, on June 8, I had to put down my little girl, Michelle. She was like my only daughter. She was a beagle and queensland heeler mix. It was so very sad. she was 13 and had horrible arthritis and in so much pain that she couldn't get around. After she died, I made a beautiful little memorial card in her memory, laminated it and gave to the people who loved her too. Just remember your pet has gone to a much better place and will never be in pain again...

Depends on your personal style - if you like to experience the grief and get it out there so you can move on then I suggest reading some of the great books about other great dogs.

If you'd rather be distracted then go to a great movie, or rent a whole bunch of movies and have a media weekend.

Eventually you'll have to deal with the sadness though. A great book for laughing and crying is Marley and Me.

Sorry for your loss. Remember all of the great times you shared and find a favorite photo that you can put in a frame. We did this when we lost one of our dogs in June and we hung his collar and tags from the frame for a couple of weeks. Then we got one of those DIY paving stone kits and wrote his name and the dates he lived with us and decorated it. After it hardened we dug a small hole and buried his collar in the garden where he liked to lay on the flowers and placed the stone on top to remember him. This wasn't saddening but helped us reflect on all of the fun we had and we actually laughed at a lot of our memories. We then went to the animal shelter and adopted another dog who needed a family. We only have shelter dogs so it was rewarding to know we were passing it on.

It's hard to mend a broken heart. I would recommend another dog or some sort of pet to get your mind off of it.

if you are not ready to get another pet...then maybe you could go to the pet store or to the humane society to play with other dogs...a puppy always puts someone in a good mood. maybe you could volunteer your time at the humane society.
