Try a stuffable Kong toy. They have Kong Spray Peanut Butter (kind of like cheese whiz) and toys that you stuff dog biscuits into.

U can't stop the pup from following U around by ignoring her -
that only makes her try harder to get Ur attention (whining, barking, grabbing Ur shoelaces, whatever it takes).
dogs, unlike cats and kittens, need INTER-active play: they need a playmate.
when U do not have time to play with Ur pup, there are several options:
* confine her (crate, puppy-proof area)
thsi works, but only if she's been well-exercised and pottied first.
she also needs BUSYWORK: a stuffed Kong, a safe solid chew-toy, an edible bone (like the carrot-bones from Nylabone)
* umbilical-train: leash Ur pup TO U, so she goes where U go
this is a much-better training-technique than simply locking pup away:
by running the clip of a 6 ft leash thru the wrist loop, around Ur waist, U now have a free-end: the clip.
clip this to pup's collar, and the two of U are paired for training.
whenever U are busy, or stationary, give her a PLACE and a TASK:
tell her to down, and give her a chewie or food-puzzle to work on.
she learns to hang-out without being the center of attention or pestering.
REMEMBER: what U == Reward == is what pup learns to repeat:
if U only give attention to ur pup when she is pestering, whining, scratching Ur pantsleg, pawing at U, and so on, U Have Taught Her To Pester For Attention.
Alternatively, if when she is lying quietly on her mat across the room, U ==Ignore her ==, what's the point?
U must NOTICE and Reward the calm behavior that U want !!

Well mainly all a puppy likes to do is play and chew. I have a Siberian husky puppy. Mainly all she does is chew and play. Most of the dogs toys out there is for chewing. So try to get her to chew on type of a toy she really likes. For instance our dog likes a toy called "Mean Kitty". Also since they're still teething they will want to chew so why don't you get her some bones they might calm her down. If she has something to chew on then you will have sometime to yourself and I know it's so hard to get mad at the dogs because they are so adorable. I can't even stay mad at mine.

I look at it this way... If you work and are gone all day the dog sleeps. Once you get home the dog is just starting her day. It's go time! Chewing is what they do best. Go to a butch shop and get some beef bones, thick ones, with lots on marrow. Once play time is over, i.e. after a good long walk and a game or two in the park. Give her one of the bones. It's best to boil the bones and then cool them for a day in the fridge. It'll be less messy and the dog will love it. Mine do and then I can get some stuff done. Also, remember that she is only 5 months old and is ready to go!!

Kongs are a great way to deal with this. I stuff my dogs' Kongs with peanut butter and treats (treats at the bottom), then freeze them overnight. That keeps them occupied for hours. I also have a "food maze" that they have to push and pull around in order to get food out of it. The other thing is to make sure she's getting enough exercise. You didn't mention the breed, but even small breed puppies have a lot of excess energy to burn off.

I vote for the Kong, its a great toy. Also there are alot of great toys out there that you put a little treat inside and they have to turn it just the right way to get it out. That might be a good diversion.

An interactive pet toy might be your best way to go. It responds to the pets movements thus keeping the pet occupied and happy at all times.

Buy he some toys to chew on and I think you have to train her to play with herself.
