I have a black lab/border collie mix. He is scared to death of thunderstorms. (or any loud noise for that matter) He will shake and pant through the whole thing. The only thing I can do is open my closet door and let him hide in there. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? He is 6 years old and has always been like this.
My other dog just paces but only because (I think) the lab is so scared.

We just moved to a new state with colder temperatures and she seems to be shedding much more than usual. She is a Red Healer/ Australian Shepherd mix and is about six years old. How much shedding is normal and is there any way to control it?

I've always loved and had many animals since I was a child. I've been looking for a job where I can get paid to enjoy working with them but having a hard time because of my area. It's ethier they are not hiring or they just need voluteers. I would volunteer but I really need the money. I already looked on asburyparkpressonline, craiglist, and even went into petshops and asked if they were hiring. Does anyone else know where I can look for a job with animals? All answers would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks

I heard many years ago there was a dogs dinner dance, they all hung up their tails in the cloakroom, unfortunately there was a fire and in the rush to get out they all grabbed the wrong tail, so now they are forever searching for their own tail?

I adopted a 4 yr old female German Sheperd the other day. She shows no aggression. Doesn't mind my 2 yr old, or the cats. I though she was just shy, but when I brought her home she stays in the corner. She doesn't wag her tail, or look for attention. She just lays there. No aggressive behavior, just sadness. Like ahe doesn't know how to play. She acts like someone just ordered her around because she is very obedient. The owner said the previous owner had her as an army dog. How do I friendly her up?

My dog has been pregnant for a while. She's starting to produce milk, and I can visibly see the puppies kicking. How much longer would she stay pregnant for? Should I start keeping an eye on her? Will it happen in less than a week?

I have 2 cats and the older but still young male cat always hisses and growls at my younger female cat when he's playing with something. Other than that they always get along and play together, sleep together, etc...but when he finds something to play with its all growls and hisses...can a cat really be possesive and jealous?

Our dog brought home a very dirty, dead rabbit. I realized it belonged to the neighbors but they weren't home. I had to act fast! With my wife's help we bathed it and then dried it off with a hair drier. I snuck into their back yard and put it back in the pen. A while later the neighbors showed up and I heard a scream. I asked him what happened and he said,"Our rabbit died this morning and we buried it and some sick son-of-***** dug it up and stuck it back in the cage!".

My friend owns a 15-year-old pony and seems to think he needs nothing. However, it can get below freezing here. I bought the pony a blanket and my husband and I put it on him the past few evenings of freezing temps. He has lived his entire life in North Florida and is acclimated to the temps here, not Scotland, where they originate from. This is the basis for my argument. The pony's owner believes his genetic makeup predisposes him to accept any cold temps that he is faced with. I would greatly appreciate any information someone who has worked with Shetland ponies may have to offer. Thanks.

We have to get a new dog and researching all the breeds to find one suitable. We are in our mid 50's and need a dog that would be satisfied with 2 walks a day as well as a little play.We are home most of the day.We also need one that is less likely to jump a 4ft fence so was thinking about the Labrador. Found that JRT's will jump so was back to the drawing board. Thanx guys.

My carnivorous turtle lives in an all-water tank with gravel and a turtle cave for him to sit on. I feed him turtle-food pellets and also occasionally a small piece of hotdog. I was watching him a few weeks ago and noticed tiny clear worms (less than 3mm long) that swam up to the surface of the water in a whirligig motion and were latched EVERYWHERE there was algae (the turtles back, the side of the tank).
I assumed it was the hotdogs and immeadiatly cleaned the turtles tank, scrubed him down and replaced the materials inside.
I also stopped feeding him hotdogs.
However the other day I noticed the worms still in there, and eventually found that they were coming out of the food he hadn't eaten yet (after it became soggy).
Now, my questions are...
What are the little worms... are they harmful to my pet?
Did they come from his food-pellets or were there just some leftover in there that feed also on his food once it gets soggy?
How can I get rid of them?
thanks for any advice you have
