What is the point of using cat litter liners if they just rip it up when they scratch in their litter boxes? Am I doing something wrong??

Go out and buy Tidy Cat liners. They almost NEVER rip. I have two cats and I have not had them rip in over 6 years.

The bottom of the box stays alot cleaner with a liner than without one, so it requires less frequent washing. It is so much easier to lift out the dirty litter with a liner rather than trying to scoop or dump it into a garbage pail. I don't know, it has just always seemed easier for me than the old conventional way.

The most important reason is so that you don't have to wash the cat box as often. Technically, you should be washing it after each change. With a liner, you don't have to wash it as often. The theory is that all sorts of pests are in pet feces, and these can either reinfect your pet, or worse, infect you. If you have more than one cat, this is even more important if one cat catches something, and gives it to the other, or in my case if one cat catches a parasite, and gives it to the other 7!

If your cat is tearing up your liner, then try clipping their claws more often. I do my cat's claws every 2-3 weeks, all 8 cats!

I am a new cat owner and found the same problem. They are handy to lift out and clean ... providing they don't get ripped.

I gave up on them. One of my cats claws caught on a liner and he nearly ended up tipping the whole lot on the floor.

I put newspaper in at the moment. (friends suggestion) But that's not wonderful either.

When you completely clean out the box -remove all the litter - you don't have to scrape the residue off. You're hands stay cleaner and it's just easier to do.

No, your not doing something wrong. I had the same experience and thought this is what I should be using until my pet sitter told me to get rid of liners, you don't need them.

Now, I'm very happy not using and paying the expense.
