Bring him to the vet. I'm sure the first thing the vet will probably do after examing him is run a blood test which could reveal the problem. Other tests might be needed if the blood test doesn't show anything, like an xray, ultrasound, and such. Please don't hesitate, you as the owner should know how your dog normally acts and if they seem to be acting unusual its a good indicator that something is wrong. Call your vet.

Any number of things could make him ill, but dogs only vomit for a few reasons: 1 being they ate too fast or ate cat poop or something really vile and then yacked it back up.
2: they ate something they can't yack up or pass in the stool such as a sock, underwear, a rock, etc...
3: Gastritis due to another problem.
The first one should resolve on it's own once he yacks it back up.
The other 2 need immediate vet care. Call an emergency clinic or take them in today. If he did eat a foreign object, the longer you wait the less likely chance he will have to survive.

Dogs are always getting into things that they shouldn't and he may have ingested some sort of enteric pathogen. How are his bowel movements? Any sign of worms? Is he eating? Is his nose wet and cool or warm and dry (which would denote a fever). Watch him for a couple of days, make sure he has clean water, and if it persists, take him to the Vet.
