A few weeks ago I bought a male, longhaired, applehead Chihuahua. When we were at the breeder and attempted to pick him up, he'd growl. We thought it was cute because the growl sounded more like newborn baby noises. So, we took the puppy home at 12 weeks old and the growling would get out of control. We were all at the point of being afraid to approach this little 2 pound maniac! So, I got mad enough to pick him up, say NO!! and clap my hands when he acted that way. Well, as time went on, we began to notice that the bigger you were, the louder the growls were, BUT.. it mattered if you were female or not. If me or my daughter picks him up, theres minimal to no growl. If my husband picks him up, he goes ballistic! Like he's going to rip his face off! With my 16 year old son, he growls and with my 2 year old, he just runs in the other direction. If you pick him up while he's sleeping, he goes bananas! I'm wondering why he growls at all and especially when a male picks him up?

I do brush and comb his fur, but he has gotten lazy about grooming himself and is getting snarls in his fur that have to be cut out with scissors. He is also getting dandruff. What can I do to help my Charlie cat?

I already have a papillon (male, 3 y.o) & my friend has a bunch of dachshund puppies & wants to give me one (3 month, female).

Any idea how these 2 will get along? I have a large apartment & can walk them for 1/2 hr once or twice a day (if they want to). I don't like my pap being alone for more than a few hours, so will they like each other? pap is very timid but also stubborn & a little jealous but i think he'll adjust. what are dachhunds like (miniature)

I've had him for 12 1/2 years and he's 13 years old. He used to be nice and sweet, but he's gotten very territorial about his cage. I know you have to make them step up, but if I keep my hand in front of him to step, he nails me. I can tell when he wants to step up, but when he hesitates, I stop trying. I do not pull my hand away when he's ready to step. I don't want to create an impression that he can't trust me, but when he won't step up on the first try, I wait and try again later. He can be very sweet, but only when he wants to. It's driving me crazy that he rules me instead of me ruling him!

i love big dogs like german shepards and afgans and black labs. i like almost all kinds of dogs exept ones that like cant be trained and if they arent trained then they are mean and doent listen at all. so basicly not a yellow lab (ive also had bad expeieces with them).

I was hanging around at my back yard and I found 3 or 4 kittenns near the swimming pool wooden racks. Their mom wasn't there so I stole one of them. It's pretty cute and not furious. Can I make it a pet if I raise it at home? What are the ways? Or it will die?

My dog is very allergic to the above mention food products. I've tried Natural Balance Venison and Brown rice, and Pro Plan for sensitive stomach, but she doesn't like them. Also she can't eat canned dog food, it makes her throw up. I'm getting desperate!

My dog will not eat her dry dog food unless I am watching over her. She would rather steal food from the cats dish. Is it ok to feed a dog cat food? All dogs seem to like it better than dog food. I have bought different brands of food but she still does not want to eat it. She woulden't even eat Nutro (the best brand you can buy) & I don't want to feed her any thing cheap that has corn as the main ingredient. I don't want to feed her canned dog food because she has long white hair & will get it all over herself. Any suggestions?
