Snakes sometimes lay in water to help with digestion and that bump you saw was probably his meal working it's way through being digested. you probably shouldn't handle him right after feeding as this can sometimes cause them to regurgitate their food. hope your mite problem gets better and good luck with him, Ball Pythons are great companions.

I'm not sure about the bump maybe the food he ate. A snake will lay in water if it has mites or there heating isn't right. I would find a good reptile vet they aren't that expensive. Give it a couple day's then worry. Sorry but good luck to you

I put this on my watchlist to see what the answers would be , but I see you haven't gotten any.I wish I knew what to tell you.I have a Ball Python named "Samson". He's the first snake I have ever had.I got him for my birthday Jan. 21.My son had a Ball python but his got the mites you are talking about. He let it go too long I guess cause the snake died.He just kept washing the mites off and never got around to getting the medicine for him.I hope your snake is OK.Wish I could help you figure it out.Maybe somebody will answer.Good luck to you and your snake.

Was that bump close to the base of the tail? That's probably the anal opening...if it's not, then you might want to have it checked out. As for laying in the water bowl...well, lots of snakes will do that, so I don't think that's much of a concern....then again, a trip to the vet never hurts.
