I have a pug that is five and he was potty trained, but now he likes to potty on my couch and bed when I am at work. I work little more than 8 hours a day, so he is home most of the day by him self. I am at the end of my rope and not sure what to do with him? I do not want to have to give him up, but I cannot have him using the bathroom on my bed or couch. Any advice would help.

We just acquired a very intelligent miniature australian shepherd and he's almost 4 months old. My problem is that I put him into his crate (it is not too big) at night. At around 5 or 6 am he has to go potty, but he does not bark or whine untill after he has soiled his crate. How can I get him to let me know when he has to go or to not soil his crate at night? He doesn't have any accidents in the day time. When he is potty-trained for the night and big enough so he won't hurt himself at night he won't be sleeping in the crate anymore. But we want him to be crate-trained just in case he has to get in there if a natural disaster occurs. Thanks!

In the past I have been succesful puting the pill in a small piece of hot dog and the dog just eats it. My current dog has realized that the medication is in the meat and will not eat it now. What is the eaisest way to give the dog the medication? This morning I opened up his mouth and basically shoved the med down his throat. Is there an easier way?

We close our bedroom door and the cat doesn't sleep with us. Around 4:00 to 6:00 in the morning, he's outside our door meowing loudly and whining and would not stop. We don't want to have the habit of letting him in at that time and getting used to it. Does he just want attention? I got up this morning around 5:45AM to get ready for work and he was still meowing and whining. I put food out and fresh water and was patting him and still making noises. What can it be?

I have a 4 1/2 month old yorkie/chihuahua mix. She is an indoor dog. However, when I take her out for a walk if another dog or person comes near she goes nuts trying to get to them to play. She's practically airborn while I'm restraining her with the leash. She does where a halter so as not to choke her. Any ideas on how to calm her. I've tried telling her to heal or sit, but she is so excited she won't listen to anything. She will even jump all over dogs that look like they could eat her as a snack in one bite. At home she only gets attention/meals/treats if she sits on command first.

Since I have a lot of family she has been socialized since I got her at 8 weeks of age.

have you ever tried to adopt a rescue animal? i have a couple times and let me tell you, i was not impressed. a couple years back, we needed a cat. i never got anybody to answer the phone. i have found animals, nobody would ever take them. a lady i knew was a 'foster parent' for a puppy. she found a good home for them and they got all bent out of shape because they did not go through the shelter and pay their enormous fees and fill out all their paperwork. which brings me to another point, we bought, (YES, BOUGHT!) a puppy from a breeder. and that was after calling every animal shelter within 50 miles of my home. they all wanted me to fill out a bunch of paperwork just to be put on a WAITING LIST, and their adoption fees were more than the cost of purchasing the dog we have now. HOW ON EARTH DOES THIS HELP THE ANIMALS????

My male pet Beagle is almost 2 months old now (on Sept 16 to be exact). Should I start training him soon? How can I best deal with it especially that I have work the whole day and I only have to leave him most of the time with my pet sitter?

Rory, my beloved Great Dane is a chocolate and junk food eating machine. While Rory and I sit on the sofa and watch TV, we usually munch on snacks. He has grown quite fond of Mars Bars, and taco chips. The problem is that he always wants more. If I give him two or three Mars Bars, he wants more….and more…He is insatiable. If I stop giving him Mars Bars, he moans and whines like a little baby. He pouts and gives me the “silent treatment”. If I talk to him, he looks away, as if something so interesting is happening out the window. He gets all sullen and moody

He is putting on quite a bit of weight, and I have tried to cut down on his chocolate consumption as he is becoming a pig about it. In fact, sometimes when I get home from the grocery store, he knocks me over and sniffs through the backs in a search for sweets. Any advice?

Well…my beloved Great Dane has finally done it. My live-in g/f moved out yesterday after he pooped and peed all over her thesis on nuclear fusion. It was due at the university yesterday, and she left it on a chair when she went for an emergency bathroom break. Worse, he then tripped over the power cord in an effort to escape and unplugged the computer, and she hadn’t saved it. When I pointed out to her that she should have saved it…she went crazy and packed her bags. I could swear that Rory looked smug as she walked out the door. His jealous behavior is getting too much. First the Bea Arthur pictures and now this. Then I woke up this morning, rolled over and there was Rory, sleeping where my beloved g/f normally slept. He wrapped his huge forearms around me and I could barely breathe. I was naked, so it wasn’t the best of positions to be in. What can I do with this dog? I am thinking of giving me to a “farm” but it would break my heart.

I have a 6 month old puppy that is really on a one way ticket out. Lately he has been terrizing my cats [ more then usual] , nipping at my 2 yaer old child and basically jumping on the table to get the food off. When my kids have food he will grab it out of their hands. I have tried the water bottle thing, the shake can and using a firm[pratically yelling]NO. I dont know what to do . I love him but his terrizing is getting on my nerves. If it helps he is a whippet/shepherd/hound mix.

I have a 15 week old Shih Tzu. From day one I used pee pads and she does go on them.
She also goes outside, on command. Very smart puppy. The pee pads are too easy for her and I was hoping someone could help me with answers on how to eliminate them, or should I wait awhile. I do have a crate, but I don't lock her inside, I have baby gates on my kitchen doors, so she has the space of the kitchen. I do like that she does go on the pads and not my floor. Can someone give me advise.
Thanks
Jay
