Last week on Sunday my dog ate some caffine pills and i was off from work on Monday so I babied her all day and she stayed out of her kennel and layed around the house with me. Well on monday night at around midnight she started barking non stop. She did this for about 3 hours till i finally got up and put her in the bathroom with the door shut. She was wanting attention cause she had it all day and that is probably what your cat is wanting. Try locking it up when it starts crying. I know it is a hassle but when I put my dog in the BR and shut the door she whimpered for a bit but finally went to sleep. Tyr this a few nights and maybe your cat will get the message not to be so loud during the night. Good luck, I know that is annoying.

Your kitty misses you! I have a needy kitty who does the same thing, only she'd do it throughout the night and wake up everyone in my household until she was let in to see me.
It's a long time for cats to be alone. By 4 in the morning they could have been entirely alone and without attention for many hours. It isn't neglectful by any stretch of the imagination, as everyone has to sleep, but some kitties just LOVE attention. If you're willing to, try leaving the bedroom door open just a crack and let the kitty come in on his own.
If you don't want the kitty there at night or prefer your door closed, then just ignore him when he does this. Hopefully he will eventually stop... But I won't promise that he will. You could try a spray bottle with water, answering the door and giving him a light spray if he doesn't stop meowing, but I dislike this method.
A good way to make kitty spend more time out there might be to put out a kitty bed or nest of blankets for him to sleep on. If you don't mind him in your bedroom but don't want him on your bed, then you can put said nest/bed for kitty inside your own room and put him on it. Since he's a cat though, there's absolutely NO guarantee he'll stay on it.
I solved my kitty problem, by the way, by having a unique living condition. I have an upstairs bedroom set, with a hallway between them, a door at the end of the stairs, but no doors between the rooms, so I put the kitty's litter box and food at the other bedroom (which is filled with junk behind it) and keep the door closed to the downstairs at night. This obviously won't work for everyone, or most anyone.

My cat does this also. She just wants to go out to use the "bathroom." She then stops. Is this an inside only cat? Nonetheless, cats are very social and she may also just "miss" you or is bored or anxious for some reason.
Get some cat-nip?
Is this something new? I have always owned - for the most part - female cats. The males that I have had all been funky. Are there female cats nearby that are in heat? Does he even eat the food? How old is he? Is he the only child? Maybe he needs a friend.
maybe this person can help - see email link at bottom of page.

Good luck.

You need to reset his alarm clock! Don't ever give in to him. If you do it even once he will never stop. Interrmitant reinforcement is the most powerful kind.
Can he be confined to another room at night? That would stop his bothering you so early in the morning. Cats just don't sleep in seven or eight hour stretches.
My cats don't bother me in the mornings and when I get up they are very demanding about breakfast being served immediately which is annoying as I want to have a cup of coffee before I start on that procedure.

sounds to me like you have a cat in heat in the area..... especially in the early morning hours... when the wind is usually calm the scent can travel over a long distance!! has your cat been "fixed"?? does he seem to want attention or more interested in getting outside ??? a lack of the details makes it even harder to diagnose from an internet point of view............good luck !!!!!

Your kitty is a nocturnal animal. He wants some attention before he goes to sleep for the day.

Hes lonely, and just wanting attention from you. And hes just trying to communicate with you. Cats are smarter than we give them credit for.

he wants food and attention. my cats wake me up about 5 mins before 6am to wake me up to tell me it's food time. they know that they get fed at 6am, and then in the evening about 5 -10 mins before 6pm they are letting me know it's time for food. they don't usually let me know when their 10pm feeding is that is mostly so we can sleep past 3am.

I let my cats sleep with us to avoid this. They love being near us and I love it as well. They snuggle with us and its generally a very pleasing experience to have someone who wants to cuddle with you through out the night. Your cat loves you and just wants to be near you!
