I have a 15 week old Shih Tzu. From day one I used pee pads and she does go on them.
She also goes outside, on command. Very smart puppy. The pee pads are too easy for her and I was hoping someone could help me with answers on how to eliminate them, or should I wait awhile. I do have a crate, but I don't lock her inside, I have baby gates on my kitchen doors, so she has the space of the kitchen. I do like that she does go on the pads and not my floor. Can someone give me advise.
Thanks
Jay

A puppy isn't fully developed until 16 wks. before they can hold it for any lenght of time. second, your
space is way too large for the puppy. use your crate, when you can't watch her put her in there. a crate should only be large enough for the puppy to stand up,turn around in and to lay down in. stop using the wee pads. take her out right after she eats, plays, before she goes in crate and when shes taken out of crate. take her to the same spot, praise her the minute she does her business. do this consistantly. as the puppy grows give her more space in her crate. always praise good behavior, ignore bad behavior. good luck!

why no try gradually moving the pee pad closer to the outside door until she learns that she should always use outside as by now she should be letting you know if she wants the toilet. so then removing the pad would be no problem although you may still get the odd accident. you dont say wether it is because she cant get outside to the toilet that she is then using the pee pad or if she is using it rather than going outside these are 2 different areas altogether as if it is the latter you will need to get her checked for any medical reasons that she may not be able to make it outside or restart the training. you could always try locking her in the indoor kennel when you are out or at night etc as normally they will not urinate in their bed good look

Start moving the pee pads closer to the door then eliminate them altogether. It will be more work for you, but you will just have to take her to potty outside very often even if she doesn't go.

PEE PADS DO NOT WORK!!!!! why on earth would someone want to train a puppy to PEE IN THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crate training is a far better alternative
Here is an artical that explains the how and why of crate training

I agree with Jr! I used puppy pads also, with my 3month old lab and 9month old Siberian! They work great when they have accidents! The way to get them off is to put them near the door that you take her outside to go potty! GRADUALLY take her off of them, she will realize that to go potty she has to tell you, by going by that door and sitting there or do something to go outside! Dont think that dogs are dumb, because just when you think they are, they do something unbelieably smart! Good Luck i know it worked for me!

I was told by some one to put the pad closser to the door for so many days till eventually it is out side . that way she will learn that she has to go potty out side . Good luck ,I m going through the same thing .

Throw out the pads and take your puppy outside. They teach your puppy it is ok to use the house as its toilet.

If you can keep a pad in an inconspicuous place why not leave it for her. Just in case of any accidents.
