If he has pets get him a gift card to use for his pets.
If he doesn't get him a gift card to someplace he can get something for himself. Go to a specific store or to a bank for a prepaid credit card.
Be sure to get a card and sign your name and your dogs name.

You must have a very nice boss. Get a thank you card with a gift card to his favorite restaurant. If he's really all that nice, he'll invite you to go with him.

Buy lunch. Or, if your boss is a pet owner, a gift card from your local pet supply store would be nice. Also, a "thank you" is always nice.
