A dogs body temperature is a couple of degrees higher than a humans. If her nose feels hot and dry, or if her ears feel hot, she has a temperature.
The normal range is 99 - 104 degrees.
40 degrees is equal to 104 so I'd keep an eye on her.
Your daughter must have noticed somethings up to have taken her temp in the first place.

Is that 40 degrees Farenheit or Celcius? Your dogs normal temperature should be about 101-102.5 Farenheit.

It differs for the size of the dog. My dog is a collie and she's 42 degrees. Apparantly that is normal.

Dogs body temperature can only be taken rectally. This shold certainly only be taken by a qualified vet, not people messing with a thermometer!
