Grandmother had to go to the nursing home leaving her old dog homeless. We live in an apartment that cannot have pets. Even though it is blind, it suffers no pain and we hate to have to put it down. Any suggestions?

I currently have a 20 gallon rectangular TOP FIN tank I bought from PetSmart earlier this year around February 2006. When I started the tank I put in a plecostomus "pleco" which was then about 2 inches long. Since then the pleco has grown to be about 8 inches long and seems "crowded" in the present aquarium. I have been looking at 50-55 U.S. Gallon aquariums. My problem is which one to get, a taller shaped aquarium or a long rectangular aquarium. I think that the rectangular shaped aquarium would give the fish more room to swim back and forth. Since "plecos" spend most of their time on the bottom, would it not be better to get the rectangular aquarium to give it more bottom swimming space?

Thank You!

I have a cat who I just took to the vet today, because he hasn't been eating or drinking for 3 weeks. They said that his liver was failing, and that he had to be put the sleep the next day! He purrs, and acts perfectly normal, and seems very happy, but he has lost 5 pounds in about a month, wich is not good at all. We are still deciding wheter we should put him to sleep or not, because who knows-he might just die from liver failures the next day! But I can't afford to be separated with him..........It's just too hard. I've had him ever since a was a baby little kitten, and I saved him from an animal shelter. I have mixed feelings about all of this, and it's just so hard to lose him........I have been crying all day, and i've been to depressed to even eat. I've been thinking about all this so hard, that I have a terrible headache, and I feel very light headed and noicious. I really need some advice. This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make........ PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I live in a climate not unlike Seattle, and my old house has no heaters. I worry about my birds - what's the minimum temperature they find acceptable, do you know?

I did some research before I got him, so I know what the books recommend. I'd just like some advice from people who have actually owned a salamander.

We have a house full of cats, and a few birds have lately been lodged permanently with us - I'm trying to find ways of keeping the birds safe from the cats without confining them to another room, and I'm considering suspending their cage from the ceiling with a wire. Or are my cats simply going to jump onto it across the room from the piano then? I'd hate to test it. What do you suspect will happen?

I have a Tetra Tank and I noticed one staying near the top of the tank. I thought maybe he was sick. I started to change the tank and as I was getting it out I notice his fin was barely hanging on. When I put the net into the other tank for it to swim out of the net, it came right off. Now it tries to swim but it just goes up and down. It came off where the fin starts so it looks normal until you look closer. My tetra's nip at each other alot and I think thats what happened to his fin. I noticed there is one particular tetra always nipping at him. I don't think it was caused by any sickness, but I'm new to the fish world, therefor I'm uncertain. I feel sorry for it, is there anything to help it or will it die?

I have to buy a gift for a child who is getting a Quarter horse for her birthday. The child is going to be 8. She rides trails, just for fun and wants to try barrels.

What type of leather reins should I look for or ask for? I want something in basic black, ha ha. And preferably inexpensive. The bridles I saw today were 200.00 and said things like roping reins, etc.

What are "kids in the backyard reins" called if anything? What features should I look for?

I read in another post that someone gives their cat a bath. I thought that cats took care of cleaning themselves. I will wipe off the cat if he gets something on him. He is an indoor cat.

And plus I don't think my cat would enjoy the thought of taking a bath. Do you do it like you would a dog? Put him in the bathtub and scrub him down and then dry him off.

I've just never heard of this so I was just wondering...

My dog doesn't like to be picked up. This is going to be a challenge when it comes to stuff like bathing and the vet. She's a small dog, and yet she doesn't like being picked up. She's also a rescue dog.

People keep bringing us their pets they can no longer take care of, and I simply don't want to believe that birds like being in cages, even if they've been inside them all their lives - but maybe I've got it all wrong? Can you explain the psyche of birds to me? I really would like to know one way or another, and make those birds happy, even if it means releasing them into a big aviary or something that I may yet have to build. Thank you.
