Is he a show dog? Has he been evaluated for breed worthiness? Has he competed in obedience or rally? does he have his cgc? Has he or is he going to have health testing done (not just simple vet exams)? does he have an impressive pedigree? Does he have anything to add to the pug breed to help improve it? Are you experienced in breeding practices?
As far as health is concerned he'ld be much healthier and even happier if he was neutered.Neutering doesn't make a dog fat and lazy, over feeding and lack of exercise does. A spay/neutered dog doesn't need as many calories as they did while intact since they aren't burning them hormonally any more. They also won't have hormonal driven behaviors any more. Neutering eliminates testicular cancer, dramaticly reduces prostrate cancer and infections as well as anal fistulas. Your dog won't go off his feed every time a female anywhere within 5 miles goes in heat among other things.

Neuter him. There are more than enough Pugs out there already, plus it will help with marking. Breeding him will probably make the marking behavior worse.

Are you a breeder? Do you know anything about breeding?? Do you want to breed to make money? Or because you have a love for the breed and your dog is exeptional for that breed? If you arn't experianced and the dog isn't akc registered, you should just neuter him. He'll live a longer and healthier life. If you want to get into breeding, start with going to some local dog shows and talk to breeders. Get an idea of what you'll be getting yourself into. It's alot more then you think. If your going to become a breeder, become one with the main focus of doing it for the breed, not for the money. It's a wonderful hobby with many rewards, but usually doesn't make much money unless you become one of those horrible puppy mills.

The BEST way to end the marking is to neuter him. The world is full of pugs. You don't need to breed him merely because he is breeding.
You'll like him more when he's had his little nip and tuck and he stops marking everything.

Neuter him, it's the better option. Letting him mate will make him mark more... neutering can reduce that, but he will require training to stop it (neutering isn't going to fix it, but will make it easier to fix)
There are also the health benefits, and zero risk of testicular cancer... I heard someone say 'if he gets cancer I'll have him neutered then' The problem is that some cancers spread easily, and removing the testicles does not guarantee to cure the cancer... but it does guarantee to prevent it.

Don't hesitate, just neuter him. But don't expect the marking problem to go away on its own. He is old enough to know better now. Also, don't listen to any stories about how "fixed" dogs get fat and lazy. Owners make dogs what they are, doesn't matter if they are sterile or not.

I'm not for an automatic neuter here. I realize there are an awful lot of unwanted, abused and abandoned dogs and cats out there. But someone might really give a pug puppy a great deal of love and companionship through the years.

Neuter. We have enough homeless and unwanted dogs in the world. Also neutering should reduce the marking behavior.

I would have to agree with everyone who says ( neuter) him. It does protect your dogs health and he wont be as likely to want to roam (in pursuit of a mate). We do have too many homeless puppies out there. I think its the best thing to do. They have a fairly quick recovery time from the procedure and it isnt very expensive. Good luck to you both!!!!
