Grandmother had to go to the nursing home leaving her old dog homeless. We live in an apartment that cannot have pets. Even though it is blind, it suffers no pain and we hate to have to put it down. Any suggestions?

Any blind or deaf person would tell you that they're just as happy that they're alive as anyone else would be. You're wise to see how valuable his life still is.

First, try petfinder. It's especially for homeless pets, and there is an option to just search for seniors. List the disabled dog, and I'm sure you'll get a hit!

This site exclusively lists senior dogs for adoption. You can learn how to list him here:

Your local humane society and your local veterinarians' offices may be able to refer you to even more remote places that they have a relationship with. Senior and disabled dogs have options. Have hope, and give him the time he needs.

It would be much kinder for you to put this dog to sleep than to shuttle it to a strange new environment.
If the dog is an older blind dog it's chances of adoption are slim to none.
I know this sounds cruel but it's the truth.

Local paper usually works very well. Otherwise contact some rescue group in your area.

There are animal rescue agencies. You might type in Canine rescue agency in the search engine. If this doesn't work, try dog rescue agency and if this still doesn't work try animal rescue agency.

YOU COULD ASK THE VET OR PUT AN AD IN THE PAPER OR CONTACT YOUR ANIMAL ADOPTION TO SEE IF THEY COULD HELP YOU. FOR THE SAKE OF THE DOG YOU MIGHT NEED TO PUT IT DOWN.

petfinder.com, craigslist.org, freecycle.org (people do offer up dogs on it). look up your local no-kill shelters and call them, and try putting up flyers in vet offices and pet stores.
