My wife was up at 4 this morning feeding our 1 month old and saw black ants on the kitchen counter. Over the course of a few weeks they have gone from are bedroom bathroom to the hall bathroom and now into the kitchen. We live in NC and have had no rain for months so we thought they were looking for water. I sprayed and treated both bathrooms and they didn't return. Thing is my wife hates bugs and so she grabed the ant killer and sprayed the counters this morning and they died but then she was upset when she looked at the bottle and it said do not spray were food is prepread. "shes a little sleep deprived with the new baby and everything so she wasn't really thinking clearly" she cleaned the whole kitchen with 2 diffrent kinds of cleaner, bleach and clorox wipes so my question is, is it safe now to lay stuff on the counters since she cleaned them that much.

I have a house in central Florida. I only visit 2 times a year. The house is left vacant. I recently discover a lot of bugs (roaches, ants, who knows what else...) I wonder what can I do to prepare the house before I leave it vacant for the next 6 months.

When we turn the temperature down to say, 40 degrees F, while away in winter the furnace has to run less. Someone told us it is better to just turn it down a few degrees ( ie. 65 or max 62 Fahrenheit), as it costs twice as much to heat the house back up to room temperature as we save by lowering it. The suggestion was that if we are away for quite a while, like a month, the much lower temperature would save money, but if only gone for a few days it costs too much to get the house warmed up again. Is it true that it costs much more to heat a house back up to room temperature, than we save by lowering the thermostat to a low temperature, and for what length of time would one have to leave it at the lower temperature for it to be a cost saving?

Key word here being NEED and not other frivolous stuff like Cable TV, Internet, Cell Phone, etc that will just suck the money out of me.

Here are some things that I think I need, please pitch in and help me complete my list so I know how much money I am looking at to complete my move in.

Basic apartment stuff:
Telephone service
Telephone and answering machine
Iron and ironing board
Mop and bucket
Vacuuming machine
All-purpose cleaner
Floor lamps

Bedroom/Living Room:
Bed and bedding materials

Kitchen:
Table and chairs
Frying pan and soup pan
Plates, bowls, and cups
Forks, knives, spoons
Dish-washing sponge and soap
Dish-drying rack

Bathroom:
Toilet bowl cleaner
Toilet bowl brush
Toilet plunger
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Hair brush and products
Towels and floor mats

Anything I'm missing? I just want to cover my very basics and then when I save up some money I can buy other stuff that I want and don't necessarily need to survive and work.

I have a bunch of things I would like to give away! Mostly books or little house decorations. The thrift store here is not taking anymore donations! What do you do with the stuff you want to get rid of, but don't want to throw out?

I was thinking maybe ebay... but I'm not sure if that's worth my time or not. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

My parents house has a furnace and downstairs stays warm. However, my room gets cold and it's really hard to concentrate on studying for my college when it's cold.
My room is about 10' X 10'. Will the electric ceramic heater effect the electric bill by much? I don't plan to have the heater on 24/7. I just need to use it when I need to study.

Here is the specs. of the heater.

High: 1500 watts and 5118 BTUs
Low: 900 watts and 3070 BTUs
