You could use boric acid. Boric acid is poisonous to ants acting on their exoskeleton and is not harmful to human beings.

best to treat the nest with the liquid insecticide, bait for the foraging ants. Ants will feed on different products different times of the year...some times they want sugars, sometimes they want proteins (grease/peanut butter/meat) Inside use a liquid or gel bait, that the ants feed on and carry it back to the nest to feed others..it can take a few days up to a couple of weeks to get results. If you are able to trace the ants back to the nest itself, usually near the home, a direct drenching of insecticide should kill the colony

Go chemical war fare on them. When I moved into my new apartment there were little lines of ants everywhere. I got the raid that kills ants and sprayed the entire line into where they were coming from. I sprayed around all the floorboards and every edge of the apartment. We are now ant free!

They don't really cause too much harm - I get them every summer.
Go to any hardware store and you can buy something to put down - the ants like it, take it back to their nest and they all die. Only costs a few bucks.
