I just bought a lava lamp and I was wondering do you remove the bottle cap and then put the little thing on top of it to close it?

NO! if you open the bottle you'll mess up the pressure and it will never work again.

NO! Absolutely not! If you remove the cap, the stuff could spill out and cause a huge mess. Just don't put it on anything other than the lamp that came with it, otherwise it could shatter. Watch Mythbusters

No, don't remove the bottle cap. That's just how they seal the bottle after they put the wax and liquid in there. If you remove the cap, it might not work properly.

NO!!!!
it is supposed to be closed cause the lava will go up then all the stuff in the lava lamp would spill out.

NO! The bottle is kind of vacume sealed and if you break the seal, most likely water with shoot out, with the lava, and you can't use it.
