We live in an apartment overseas which has been outfitted with full-size American appliances. The gas source here is LPG, so our Kenmore range was converted (how well the conversion was done is anyone's guess). We have had a gas smell in the cabinet adjacent to the range ever since we moved in, and while our maintenance guy has tried various methods to seal up the gaps, the hose itself is vinyl, which I'm assuming is leaching gas and causing the gas odor. So, can an LPG range ever be properly plumbed with vinyl tubing? Or should I insist on metal?

I found some land that I would like to buy that's currently covered in Christmas Trees. I know that the pesticides for Christmas Trees cause cancer. I would like to know, I I buy the land, and dig up all the trees, then is there some way for me to clense the land from the pesticides still in the soil, or do I just have to wait, and if I have to wait, how long.

Thanks.

I was given a beautiful orchid for Mother's Day, but by the end of June all of the blossoms had fallen off. Someone told me that orchids become dormant until next spring...is this true or is there something I can do to revive it?

I was wondering, does anyone know if some type of cacti have caspian (the same burning stuff found in hot peppers) in them as a defense mechanism?

I cut a couple arms off of a cactus I have to replant later and got some of the "cactus juice" on my hands and later on rubbed my eyes. It burned just as bad as when I did the same thing cutting peppers. I scratched my nose even later and now my nose burns.

It kinda got me curious about the nature of cacti.

My dad said ceramic is too hard and i will just dull the bit or ruin the motor with the drill and said to try to chizel a hole. Would this work or is there another way?

This has been a problem on and off for the last three years. It was better for a while when they had a live in dog sitter but now he's quit, they've hired a couple of guys to do it while they swan off to their house in Spain. The dogs bark the whole time they're on their own and I can't take much more! It sounds like an over reaction, but it drives me crazy! Now summer's finally arrived, everyone's got their windows open which makes the problem even worse!

It's gone eleven and I so want to go to bed, but there's no point.

How can i find out when my house was built,i live in London.

I live in an apartment that is one half below ground. I'm in the Chicago area and we've had a ton of rain. Over the last couple of days, water has been slowly seeping in along the baseboards and soaking up though the carpet and padding.

My question is, is this a leaking foundation that is going to be a problem in the future too? I know we've had an abnormal amount of rain, but is it going to leak slowly and less noticeably at other times and be a risk of mold?

My landlord says we can get out of the lease and lose no money, but I don't want to have to move if I can avoid it. And I also don't want to be around if they are going to be tearing up the foundation and walls for repairs.

Any advice at all would be helpful. What would you do in my situation?

I'm used to hot, but not humid. I'm thinking about moving to an area that is both hot and humid, and I won't be wanting to use the a/c much.

I noticed when I was visiting a hot, humid climate, some houses were very hot and some were very pleasant--on the same day, only a mile or two apart.

What makes one house be cooler? I'd be interested in all sorts of factors: For example, what areas to look for when buying a house; position of windows when building a house; material of the flooring; direction the windows are facing; trees and landscaping; interior design; etc. etc.

Thanks!

Hello Gardeners, We bought two Hibiscus last summer that our dog ate. Well there wasn't much to them left so I planted them outside last fall in Zone 7 (North Carolina Piedmont) not expecting much from them. What little green was there died off in the winter down to the ground. This spring/summer they grew about 3 foot high and wide with a great color display.

My question is, since they both lived through a frost winter, what should I do this year? Should I cut them back to the base? Dig em up and bring them in? If I cut them back should I cut em down to the root level again or just give them a trim? I don't have the variety info and I looked at Rose of Sharon and the leaf structure doesn't look the same so I don't think they are azaleas.
