This has been a problem on and off for the last three years. It was better for a while when they had a live in dog sitter but now he's quit, they've hired a couple of guys to do it while they swan off to their house in Spain. The dogs bark the whole time they're on their own and I can't take much more! It sounds like an over reaction, but it drives me crazy! Now summer's finally arrived, everyone's got their windows open which makes the problem even worse!

It's gone eleven and I so want to go to bed, but there's no point.

Sorry - should have said that the people who are meant to be looking after the dogs have been out all day.

I would turn up the music, but I've got a small child and an elderly neighbour!

Can't use earplugs because I won't hear my son in the night.

Great suggestions, but I'm not prepared to go to the expense of installing air con (not so healthy as an open window anyway) and we're not allowed double glazing because we're in a listed building.

We will talk to them (again) when they get back.

Internal air conditioning units could be good, so you can keep your windows closed.
Also double glazing may help if you don't have it already.
And maybe quiet background music t drown out the last of it.

And definitely report it to whoever on tuesday. And keep reporting it.

Maybe when the people are back from Spain, having a friendly discussion about it explaining how things are now (not confrontational, as that will probably not get anything resolved).

You need to call the RSPCA or the police. This can't go on - you have been extremely patient. Apart from you and your other neighbours being disprupted the dogs are clearly not being treated very well and that is animal cruelty.

it might be worth a go but obviously doesn't seem fair that you have to pay!

I have a dog and will not tolerate it barking outside because I would hate for my neighbours to be annoyed.

Im not sure were you live but here were i live if a dog is barking for more than 10min you can report it to the city and the owner will be fined and if it keeps going on the animals can be removed by the city.
But keep in mind the dogs have to be barking when the city shows up to check.

Put some Ex Lax chocolate through their letter box. After a while the dogs will not dare bark!
On a more serious note complain to your local council's dog warden. Everyone has the right to peace and quiet.

Most towns/cities have ordinances against this, you should consult animal control or your local police department for help. In my town the police will come to the home of the offender and make the owners do something about it, if the problem persists they can be ticked for disturbing the peace.

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/OlhCJ

For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.

throw a bone over the fence with sleeping tablets in it that should keep them quite for a while. failing that tell the donuts that are looking after the dogs to keep the dogs inside when they are out, or you will call the police.

There is a thing called earplugs that work wonders for things like that. Once you put them in, you won't hear a thing. If that doesn't work then try talking to the dogs, they just might understand and stop barking so much.

Report it to environmetal health in the morning, well Tuesday.
If the owners are out of the country and the dogs are not being tended to properly, you could tell the RSPCA as well cos thats just cruelty.
