I planted purple Verbena last month. It flourished and flowered for several weeks and then the blooms disappeared. It's been 3 weeks and still nothing, but the stems are strong and green and nothing is dried out. We've had good rains and I fertlized them. I've read that you don't have to "dead head" Verbena so do I just keep waiting and they will bloom again on their own? Thanks!!

I have insects, that look like bumble bees, that are making small holes in my deck railings. I heard that they are called sergeant bees, but I haven't found anything about them. How do I get rid of them without calling an exterminator?

I have gnats everywhere. There is nothing rotten like fruit or any vegatables. My house is clean. There is absolutely nothing to draw these things inside my home. I am talking thousands of them a day. They gather around my tea maker and die, they fall dead on my stove at night because I leave the overhead light on, & they get stuck in my ozone air machine. I clean my ozone machine daily because there are at least 30 in there dead everyday on the ozone plate. They fly around everwhere. Could it be because its so dry outside, because of no rain, or maybe one layed eggs in my house. Anyone who knows the cause of these things and what I can do to get rid of them, I would certainly appreciate any input.

Debating what kind of fan to purchase for my bedroom. Although the tower fan is more visually appealing, it is more expensive than the conventional stand fan. Both oscilate and come with different speeds.
Which type do you prefer and why?

I just recently bought some sod from an awkward place i'll never go back to. The man there seemed knowledgable and told me to drip a little Ivory Soap on the sod. He said it acts as a pesticide and suffocates local pests and he does it every year and his grass is nice.

I would think soap would be harmful to grass. Is this man crazy?

We never used to had that problem in the 5 years we've been composting. Apparently we now have a fly problem: For a few months, vegetable cuttings from the kitchen were added to the compost bin without turning the contents. Weather was warm, flies probably multiplied. I recently took-over the duty again from my husband and have always turned the compost each time that I add anything; but there are still a lot of little flies. Everytime I open the lid, flies bounce off my face.

Would it be safe for the slugs and hundreds of worms to spray an insecticide in the bin? Or is there another way to control the flies? The compost smells good -- just don't like those hundreds of little flies.
