People are more relaxed around plants, but there's no room in a car lot for big trees......plus the root problems, bird dropping on the cars, the leaves, etc. Palms have a less damaging root system, they are less messy (if trimmed often) and give an aura of elegance to the car dealership. Plus the palms don't interfere with the signage as much.

My husband works at a dealership, and they don't have palm trees. Of course, palm trees don't grow very well here in Kentucky, so it might just be where you live.

They are real easy to plant (just need a shallow hole for small roots) and take little care (so everyone can concentrate on sales instead of plant-tending).
