Do you have an overhang from your roof where it stays dry? How about a plastic tarp for keeping a bicycle dry? Can you borrow a neighbor's garage for this one rainstorm, and go out and buy a tarp ASAP?
If you use a tarp, be sure you tie it to the lawn mower, or weight it down with rocks, so it doesn't blow away in the storm.
Good luck. One soaking probably won't hurt is *very* much, but being outside all summer will probably shorten the mower's life. The sun will damage the plastic parts, too.

I would suggest some type of cover. I had a gas grill that I bought a sturdy durable cover for when i bought the grill at home depot. It also had a cord which you could tighten at the bottom so it wouldnt blow off in high wind. An old motorcycle cover would probably work too. Also you might want to check at an Army/Navy store if you have one. They always have all sorts of cover type things. The grill lasted 13 years. Good luck

If you have a water resistant tarp, you could put that over your mower & anchor it down with rope or a bungee cord. If you have a utility tub or galvanized wash tub, you could also put that over the mower engine. I suppose a large garbage bag (with no holes, of course) might suffice, too.
I have a neighbor who just bought a new mower & is in the same situation. He's kinda crazy, but he brought his mower into the house & put it in the utility room, on top of some cardboard!

If you really like the house buy one of the plastic storage sheds from a home improvement store. They have different sizes. Get one that is big enough
