when snow melts off my car or after a wet snow and then freezing temps my garage door freezes to the concrete.

It seems to me our furnace service company is adjusting the furnace to the heat the house OR the water. Every time they leave one or the other works properly - never both. Can anyone tell me what to adjust? Is it simply valve adjustment?

I have a gas forced electric ignition furnace. I have noticed when the temp out side is above 40 my furnace works great. Once it drops in the 30's outside my furnace will kick on, the fan will start but then kicks off. I have to manually go to the termostate and lower the temp before the furnace kicks back on. I had someone check it they said my batteries were dead in the thermostate..well they were brand new batteries. It has been doing this for the past couple of weeks. Any suggestions would be great.

i bought pain the other day and i left it in my car. I havent opened it because i dont know what to do. it was in my car for 2 days, but the weather has been extremly cold. and i was wondering if that would affect th epaint at all?

our oven smells so bad. it smells like urine/porta potty. it is so bad. i read some where that this is caused by mice. is this true??it only smells when the oven is on. how do i get rid of the smell??? please help!!
oh yeah, we have had problems with squirrels in our attic and one time they even got into our house through the attic. could it be them?

i live in rented accomodation and in the bedroom have a velux window i need to shut the light out but cant afford the 95-100 pounds cost of a velux blind it would have to be a temporary thing that i could get rid of for landlords inspection. any ideas?

last night, the wash machine almost overflowed due to the contant flow of water. it would not stop even after shutting the machine off, ultimately I had to shut the water off. I am pretty mechanically inclinded and don't mind taking it apart could it be timer or is the hot water inlet valve stuck open with something, it is fairly new install I am thinking a piece of (soder)or something has been stuck into the inlet valve, so before I rip my machine apartany sugestions would be nice.

I have a really nice bathtub but the water drains too quickly. Even if the drain is plugged it drains. It takes forever to fill up but is not even worth it because it doesnt last. Can anyone give some tips on how I can keep the water in the tub? Do I need to buy something? Please and thank you!

I live in an area that is experiencing a drought right now. My electric well pump is making more noise now than it used to. I think I might have to replace the pump and motor sooner or later. Is that a job I can do on my own?

More details: I think the pump is about 12 years old. It's a Sta-Rite brand pump... one horsepower pump (Model MSE 6)
The pump sits upright, right on the wellhead and the only pipe I can see above ground is a PVC pipe of about 2 1/4" outside diameter.

Can I tackle this on my own, or do I need to call a well guy?

Ive replaced the standard white plug sockets and light switches in my house with Metal ones. The problem is now I can feel a very small amount of current (like licking a 9vot batt) I have earthed all of them following the instructions provided. The wiring is 3 core Red, Black, Earth in my house. Ive also got the earth running from the socket face to the box it fits into.
The problem is only on one socket in the kitchen and the light switch (do I need to keep everyting off and call someone out?)

The system in the house was a boiler, hot water tank and water tank in the loft. The shower is behind the tiles with a round fitting poking through the tiles, with a silver trim. You turn the main dial for water and has an inner dial for water temp. The hot and cold feed must go into the back of it to mix.

The boiler system has been changed to a combi and where the tank was, the two pipes to the shower poke through an thus plumbed to the new system. So the shower unit has not been touched.

As from that day, turning the shower dial has become very stiff. Is this because the shower is not compatible with a combi system?

My dad had one of these"sticks" . They had inches carved on them like a ruler and you would stick it in the oil tank and it would measure the amount of inches left in the tank.
It's just like a big ruler.

I remember 10 inches was approximatly 50 gallons .

I left a garbage bag on the porch that had the left over cooking oil from when I made fried chicken. Well, something got into it and the oil spilled on the porch and I mean spilled. How do I get it up? Also, I read about some products, but they speak of having "sealed" concrete. How do I know if it is sealed? I am so upset, please give me some good advice

I live in a Loft Building. I am on the last floor (4) and I have a pipe which takes the water from the roof coming through my room and going all the way down to the bottom of the building. The roof has been repaired and all the leaks as well but everytime it rains or snow the entire pipe get a large amount of condensation. I read about lots of different solutions to the problem like insulation blankets, etc However the pipe is partially resting on one of the walls so wrapping around it currently is impossible. I have build a wooden cover to go on top of it just for now so I avoid any of the books close by getting watter but I would like to figure out a solution like some sort of water resistant foam to spray inside the cover so it "wrapes around " the pipe or maybe some special foil? Any advice would be much appreciated.

PS In some other forums I was told to use some sort of a neoprene pipe insulation but I haven't been able to find any

Heres the basics.

Went to turn up the t-stat..Nothing kicked on.


Went to the furnace and hit the reset button. The pump ran for about 15 seconds and shut off. (nothing fired or anything).

The reset button stayed down, and is acting normal. If I pull the lever the button pops up. Pushing it again does nothing. Nothing turns on / makes any noises. But the red light turns off.


It looks like the t-stat isnt getting any voltage. Jumping the t-stat wires at the t-stat or at the burner does nothing.

Plugged a lamp into the outlet used by the furnace to make sure its getting adequate juice..Its fine.


Im wondering if the honeywell primary control isnt working right. ITs not sending power to anything. I pulled it off. All the wire connections inside look fine.

Something is wrong with my plumbing but I am not sure what. My husband said it may be our "stump-pump." There is NO QUESTION that I will have to have the problem corrected and sewage taken out from under my house.

I don't know what to ask them about services, costs, certification and so on. Any ideas would be helpful.
