The wall-mounted light switch in the bathroom won't turn off. It is a double switch plate. The first switch closest to the door being for the light, the second switch being for the fan, which does not have a problem. The light switch howevere, seems loose and can sort of be jiggled a bit. And, when trying to turn light off yesterday it seemed to sort of "stick and move" such that initially it felt stiff, then as the swich approached the bottom it got looser and sort of moved towards the right so that if you were then to look at it, the switch looks just a tiny bit crooked. And, worse, the light does not turn off. If I apply some pressure to the switch as I move it from top to bottom (from on to off) the stiff does not seem as loose and the light will flick off for a moment, but, when I let it go, the light will remain on.

1) Do I need an electrician to come in, or is this a DIY job?
2) Would this be an expensive fix?
3) Shld I shut off electric to that room until help arrives?

I have a 2001 Craftsman garage door opener
model# 139.53975SRT1,
serial# 51314100282
120 volts
5.0 amps
1/2 HP

When pushing the keypad outside it opens and closes but you have to hold the ENTER button. When using the wireless button it opens w/o holding but will not close it at all. When using the inside wall button, one push will open it but again to close it we have to hold it.
Can ANYONE please help me fix this? Also if you can give me a link to troubleshooting for future issues that may arise with this particular model. I'd appreciate it.
Thank you in advance.

my door knob is circular in shape. By pressing the middle button, my room will be automatically lock. By turning the knob from inside of my room, it will be unlock again. However from the outside, you will have to use a key to unlock the door. Now, the problem is both of these solutions do not work and my room is still unlock. How can unlock my door?

Ok, so I'm putting up Christmas lights and so far am only using one circuit, it's a 15a piggyback breaker. So far my count looks like this:

4650 .41 watt mini lights
50 5 watt C9s

That's around 2150 watts and I have yet to flip the breaker, any idea why? Also it is going through a timer which has a 15amp breaker in it, and there's a GFCI on the circuit, thanks in advance.

I hear this continuous water drip like noise in the attic above my bedroom. I went up and checked it, and found nothing. Is it the water pressure on the water pipes going up to my second floor bathroom?

I had a sewer backup in my home and the pit where the trap is was not covered with concrete so the dirt has a horrible odor. I was told to treat the dirt with lime before pouring cement and building a proper pit. Any thoughts.

Whirlpool washer, only about 4 years old, started cycle and died while switching from wash to spin. I can turn the dial back to wash and it works but when I move it forward to spin nothing happens. Nothing happens when I turn dial to any other position. Do I need to call the Sears man or does someone have an idea how I can fix this myself. I am pretty handy, although not too much with electrical appliances. Thanks for your help!

I took out my fan plug.
Then the plug hole is black.
I tried to insert my fan plug to another hole, but it doesn't work.
I tried it in my mothers room and it works.
I think the power is dead in my room.
None of the plug hole works.

How to fix this problem?

Each one has a 20 on the top, does this mean the total breaker is 40 amps? or 20? and how does it work when it trips? Do both trip? Also do the colors of the switches on the breaker mean anything? Like some are blue and others red, thanks in advance!

Like the 100 pack of mini full voltage outdoor lights, if I were to connect the end of a string to the beginning of a new string would I have to waterproof that connection? Also the connect where the light string plugs into an extension cord? Thanks in advance

Everyone's talking about replacing their incandescent bulbs with compact flourescents. Wouldn't it make sense to WAIT until your old bulbs die before throwing them in the landfill? All the ads and inserts in your electric bill should read, "When your old bulbs die, replace them with CFL's," NOT "Replace your bulbs with CFL's."

I have a new house (a little over a year old) and the master bath toilet concerns me.
When someone sits on the toilet there is the sound of water dripping behind the wall (where the pipes are). At first I was the only one who could hear it. Now it is louder and others can hear it too. I had the builder get someone to check it -- they said it was water from the trap. No leaks, nothing is loose. Should I call in my own plumber or am I worrying unnecessarily? Thanks for any advice.
