The wall-mounted light switch in the bathroom won't turn off. It is a double switch plate. The first switch closest to the door being for the light, the second switch being for the fan, which does not have a problem. The light switch howevere, seems loose and can sort of be jiggled a bit. And, when trying to turn light off yesterday it seemed to sort of "stick and move" such that initially it felt stiff, then as the swich approached the bottom it got looser and sort of moved towards the right so that if you were then to look at it, the switch looks just a tiny bit crooked. And, worse, the light does not turn off. If I apply some pressure to the switch as I move it from top to bottom (from on to off) the stiff does not seem as loose and the light will flick off for a moment, but, when I let it go, the light will remain on.

1) Do I need an electrician to come in, or is this a DIY job?
2) Would this be an expensive fix?
3) Shld I shut off electric to that room until help arrives?

Most likely the switch is worn out. In any case, it's malfunctioning and needs to be replaced for safety sake. This link shows you how to DIY. Best of all, it's inexpensive.

Unscrew the lightbulb so you do waste money. If you have dealt with wiring before, go to your local powerbox and kill the power to that spot. Next unscrew the unit out of the wall. If you have a power tester the survey it for saftey. Have a new one ready and basic put the wires in the same spot on the new one. Typically silver screw is negative, gold screw is positive, green screw is ground. Screw everything in and start the power. Flip the switch and test. No go? Call for help.
