Don't use a snake in your toilet unless you really know what you're doing - you could scratch the hell outta your toilet. Try a plunger, and really work it up and down for like a minute straight. If that doesn't do it, I would find the main trap in the basement. Open it up with a wrench, and watch out cause the backflow will pour out until the line above it is empty. That's where I would then snake it from there, up and down as far as I could reach.

The obvious answer is a plunger. Also, another idea, which will seem odd, is to pour some bleach into the toilet and letting it sit for a long time then try flushing. For some reason, my mom did this and it worked. Let it sit as long as possible, then try flushing. Just an idea, I know it sounds weird.
Good luck!

You need a toilet auger, allowing the tool to do the work, slowly rotate until you reach the obstruction, may take several passes. Most hardware stores.
