I am looking to buy a house, and it is vacant. The previous owners are gone and turned off the gas and eletricity. I would like to have the house inspected before moving in on it. The realtor of the house is telling me I would have to set up the accounts for both to be turned on. Should I have to do this? Thanks

What is the best way (other than a small vac head) to clean the lint, etc. that gets trapped in the 'popcorn' on the ceiling?

I had a quote from a Corgi registered Plumber/Gas Man to fit a new oven and they wanted £150 including VAT (I live in the South of England just in case location has an effect on price). Is that right? That's almost as much as the oven cost!

Do they have to be Corgi registered and is that way I'm getting such a high quote?

Just by visiting B & Q I found out that I can buy a cordless unit with a long attachment with a headtrimmer at the end, or I cna buy a petrol unit with a long attachment too. However, I am not sure which is best or is there another tool. The Llandiis I want to keep capped - the height of a street light. I think that is 12 - 15 feet. The trees are by a road thats why I know they are the height of a street light. Then there is the question of do I need to buy some scaffolding, bearing in mind this will be a job needing doing once every 2 months. If so what is the cheapest to buy and best size.

My wife and I live in a hot area in Southern California. A friend has told us that if we keep the air conditioning turned on at a preset level that it will cool to that level and then only turn on to maintain that level of coolness instead of working hard to cool an already overly warm house. This will reduce costs in the long run as it would take less energy to keep a house at an already predetermined temperature. Is this so?

I have some Bamboo kitchen products that are from a brand called Lipper. The items have a very nice "honey" color to them, but on some spots... I notice it is turning grayish. So I think I need to apply some mineral oil to those spots. Will mineral oil darken the Bamboo? If so, what could I use to prevent darkening the Bamboo yet maintaining it?

I received some old paint and used it for my house.
Then I get scared that may be this paint has a lead.
Since paint with lead was not produced from 1978, is it possible that this paint is from that old time?
It's unlikely that it's stored for almost 30 years.
Is anybody with that knowledge?

the genius who installed my ceiling fan, with a light fixture, somehow did it so that when then fan is turned on, the light fixture spins with it. Great for a disco club, not so great for my bedroom. Anyone know how to fix it? If it matter it's a Harbor Breeze Chesire fan:

My basement wall (cement) has water stains on it and I want to paint over them. The problem is that every time I use primer to cover them they come back. I recently had the basement waterproofed with the french drain style on the inside of the basement along with a sump pump. The water stains are only on one wall. Should I paint the the wall with an epoxy paint. Or has anyone used the one part epoxy paint by Behr? Any suggestions would help.

We recently had a pool installed. The pool was green but we added the amount of shock the pool people told us to add and started the filter for the first time. After the chemicals were normal we went swimming and it was cloudy. Today is the 3rd day after starting the pool and the chemicals are fine and the water is still cloudy. Is there metal in my pool from the shock? Please help me!

I rented my unfinished house to a girl in need... who had three cats (one unspayed, one unneutered) and a dog.

The girl moved out, but the pets have left their impression. Though I've removed 95%+ of the garbage, and I _think_ I've found all the feces (in a fit of anger, I threw out almost all the furniture, just in case), the stench keeps my alergic father from even entering the threshhold (he reels back like he just got punched).

I've used Febreeze, I've used Oust (that "odor killing" is crap... ODORS AREN'T ALIVE !!!), I've used some kind of pet stain/pet odor remover, I've vaccuumed and swept and aired it out... but in some rooms, the stench remains in spite of me. It's like a freakin' ghost!

There is a concrete slab (no flooring over it, but there were some carpet fragments that I've removed), and I haven't painted the drywall yet (and yes, I've remembered to sweep under it... got more fur than I would've imagined).

What more can I do?
