the genius who installed my ceiling fan, with a light fixture, somehow did it so that when then fan is turned on, the light fixture spins with it. Great for a disco club, not so great for my bedroom. Anyone know how to fix it? If it matter it's a Harbor Breeze Chesire fan:

I have put up many of ceiling fans and cannot for the life of me figure out how this would happen. You would have to have an IQ of 2 or below to do this and I cant think at that level. If you figure it out please let me know because I a baffled.

OK, there is something truly wrong with this picture. If the entire light fixture spins along with the motor housing of the fan, your fan is definately installed incorrectly and you need to stop using it right away before it falls from the ceiling and seriously enjures someone. I'd be concerned about the wires getting twisted and shorting out as well.

But...before you go taking the fan off the ceiling, grab your cellphone or digi camera and take a video of the thing spinning out of control then email it to me at gregt@hansenwholesale.com so I can do a visual on it and tell you what the problem is.

I look forward to seeing your video...

Get a ladder and climb up so you can examine the fan. Try turning the blades slowly by hand see if they are contacting or hitting the light fixture assembly in such a way that they could be spinning it around. If there doesn't seem to be any obvious interaction. Try rotating the light assembly by hand see if it is able to spin around on the mounting tube, it could be that the nut(s) holding it in position have come loose and the vibration of the fan it causing it to rotate. If you can't tell from this you're going to have to shut off the power and take it down for detailed scruitny.

uhhh wow... i'm trying to understand the physics of this. I'm suprised the wires dont get tangled during the spin.hmmm Does the motor stay stationary? If so, he may have mounted the light assembly to the fan rotor but it would be impossible to mount the fan blades. Have you consulted an exorcist?
