i topped off the oil, took out the spark plug and cranked the engine a few times. ok. i put the spark plug back in and cranked it - no ignition. when the engine is cranking fast, i can hear excessive vibration. i know this is not good.
but at least the engine is not seized...

I was wondering if there are air coditioners made that can independently be placed inside an apartment (i.e. without mounting in the window or through wall). I know that usually heat is produced and that's why part of air conditioners are put outside, but our rented apartment doesn't allow for this.
Thank you for your help.

A home inspection stated the tankless hot water Weil-McLain boiler was 'fully depreciated.' The inspector could not write in the report (due to possible liablity) that it was 'on its last legs' but said so verbally. It was visibly old and possibly original to the '72 home. What are my chances in having the sellers replace it or have them lower their asking price, if it was just running at 210 degrees rather than 180, making the hot water baseboards run hot (ave. 150 degrees) but still in working oder? I don't want it repaired or serviced, but given allowance to do so myself. Is that unreasonable?

I have a little pet peeve about the terminology used then people ask qustions about HVAC and appliace repair. Even worse when the so called experienced technicians answer these questions. Does anyone out there acutally know why you should NOT use the term "freon" when refering to the refrigerant charge in your A/C or appliance? I hope someone out there is smart enough to figure this one out.

I am going to install a dimmer switch however i do not know if i should. I only have one bulb in my room (and i normally use those low watt energy saving bulbs.)
when i was reading the Watt limit. The dimmer can hold upto 1000w but doesnt really say anything about low bulbs.
I fear that the dimmer switch maybe damaged when i turn it on. the fact that a low watt is only in use.
Can i install the dimmer swich in my room without it fusing or blowing up?

So I was nailing pictures to the wall in my room, and I accidentally dented the wall. We live in an apartment, so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas that I could fix up the wall quickly, i.e. filling the dent with some kind of paste and painting over it. Is this even possible? Thanks!

It began dripping near the heating vents and a few lights in the ceiling. I turned off the power and unfastened the vent and lights to allow the water to somehow drain. It's now the morning after, what else should I do?

The system had automatically watered my grass 3 am, then at 10 am I tried to manually start it so I could mark where the sprinkler heads were so I could aerate my lawn, but it wouldn't start. Now, 2 days later, the system still wont start (both manually and at the scheduled times).

Do you guys have any ideas?

The floor of the terrace in my apartment has cracked like a big root of a large tree. Similarly i found the wall raised there also getting displaced slightly. What might be the reason for this?
Any Experienced Civil Engineer or architects pl help me understand this. Is it because of faulty construction or bad design of the building?

I'm sure I will get lots of clever answers on this, but this is a REAL question. We have 4 toilets in our house. All are cleaned frequently with the same cleaning products. All have new seats installed. One of them stinks very strongly of pee. It's disgusting! It doesn't matter how much I clean it. It still stinks. No one is peeing on the floor by the way, in case that's your answer. I have also scrubbed the floor and the toilet rugs and still....it stinks. I hate to call a plumber and tell them my toilet stinks, but I don't know what to do. Could it be a bad seal? Anyone have any idea what could be causing this.

Atmos Energy only allows 7 contractors to move a gas meter in Dallas and the minimum is $800 regardless. This is price fixing! Then you have to pay a plumber to move your side of the line additional. Has anyone had any luck doing this at a fair price? The meter is in the middle of yard and only looking to move it 2 feet behind the fence in dirt.

I need something to block out the sun. I already have blinds up but it lets the heat right in. I wanted to know if there was anything out there that could keep my house cooler in the summer by blocking out or reflecting the sun out. Maybe something I could put in between the window and the screen.

I bought an old farmhouse that has suffered significant neglect and abuse. While other repairs have been costly, like re-plumbing the entire house they are for the most part invisible. I have been having problems with repainting the interior. I am trying to repaint the interior and have problems with yellowing of the paint as it dries. I wash and repair the walls before I paint, but when I do the color does not come out as expected. I have applied 3 coats of brilliant white paint to the dining room and it comes out yellowish brown and splotchy. How can I prevent the paint from turning yellow as it dries? I know the other rooms are going to have the same problem. Also how can I paint over paneling, that apparently was greyish but is now dark brown?

I attempted to change my thermostat at home. After an unsuccesful try, I put the old one back on. I'm pretty sure I put the wires back correctly, but now its randomly blowing hot air and cold air at different times. Appreciate your responses.
