So I was nailing pictures to the wall in my room, and I accidentally dented the wall. We live in an apartment, so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas that I could fix up the wall quickly, i.e. filling the dent with some kind of paste and painting over it. Is this even possible? Thanks!

Go to your local Ace, Home Depot, Menard's, etc, get a small plastic container with joint compound - if you don't do this a lot get the pre-mixed, it's not that expensive, and a nice wide putty knife (like a spatula). Smear it in the dent and scrape the blade across to even it out, wait untill completely dry and repeat. If the dent is very deep or all the way through the wall, fill it with crumpled newspaper first and cover the hole with self-adhesive mesh drywall tape or with the self-stick aluminum wall-repair mesh, and then go over it gently with the drywall mud. Once it is fairly smooth and dry, you can sand and paint it.

I would crumple old newspaper up and fill the hole first. Then I would smooth wall putty over the opening, then paint. The problem is that you may end up having to paint the whole wall to keep the colors even. I would try just the hole first and maybe wash the rest of the wall before the painting... Painting the whole wall may not be necessary if you just clean up the area around the hole.

Get some quick dry, pre mixed drywall spackle, a wide putty knife (at least 4" wide) and finally some sandpaper. Paste a coat over the hole, then wait a day to dry. then sand, re-coat, wait another day, sand, then cover with primer, and finally, some matching paint, be sure to feather out the brush, to the existing paint, so it looks unnoticeable.

You can use Spackle or drywall joint compound. Fill in the dent, sand smooth and then prime and paint.

That's exactly what you do.
