Depends on the number of windows, doors and insulation. I had a 3 ton in an 1800 square foot home.

That is a hard question to answer because there are so many variables.

The amount of insulation, sun exposure, air leakage, system efficiency, etc all play a role in sizing a system.

You can try one of the many online system sizing calculators. Do a google search for HVAC sizing calculator. Your best bet is an engineer though.

a five ton is a big unit ,most residential houses have 1500 to 1800 square feet.
