My kitchen oven cause a ground trip each time we use it. I was told the reason is that there are moisture in the heater element and to dry it, remove ground and let it heat up and dry for some time powering up. Of coz do not let anyone touch the oven.

It dry up and everything was fine and the ground is screw back. Work fine. Next morning, it trip again.

The electrician came and simply change the plug, it works. Why?

I mean REALLY a difference, like pipe-wise. Is it the same water source or is our toilet water the same as our bathroom sink water?

Any light shed is appreciated.

We just bought a 1950's house, and practically all of the doors rub on the hardwood floor when I open them. They'll go freely almost half way, then they're touching the wood. The only solution that I can think of is to remove the doors and either sand a little or plane, but I'm hoping there's an easier way.

A portion of the hardwood floor in our dining room was replaced with laminate planks that don't match. So I have this big rectangular area that's a cherry finish, surrounded by the original oak. I am debating on pulling up the laminate and replacing it with hardwood planks that I can stain to match, or is it possible to sand down the laminate and restain it? I have some experience in sanding wood and staining, but not any with laminate floors. The package that had some leftover pieces in it says it has a polycarbon surface? Also, the laminate planks are 3" wide, whereas the oak planks, the original with the house I believe, a 1950's house, are 2" wide. Do they still make hardwood flooring 2" wide?

Chicago Northwest Burbs - We just experienced overnight what frozen pipes can do. My main for the house is in the fully finished basement layed with concrete. We have about 3" hole to work with that is covered with insulation. I tried a torch to heat the pipes up, however didn't want to burn the insulation. My gut tells me the frozen section is completely under the concrete or underground outside. I'd like to resolve the issue myself due to lack of money. I am currently trying a space heater to see if that might help, however don't want to wait for the spring thaw. Folks have any recommendations what I should do?

We have a two-story, 2,000sqf home, 1950's, and judging by the draft coming through all of the electrical outlets, door jams, corner cracks, etc, I don't think there's any insulation left in it. I know how to take care of the outlets, but I've heard about the foam being blown in by a contractor. How many holes do they have to put in the wall to do that? What would prevent that foam from coming through cracks and into the house? Any idea on cost? Is this something that one can do-it-yourself?

Hi, if you had an empty lot on which to cost- effectively build from scratch a rehearsal complex of 10 15x20 ft spaces, what materials and methods would you chose for walls, floor and ceilings?

Could you make a cost per sq ft estimate?

Thanks

Just bought a house, and all the shower fixtures are very old, the drain handles don't work, so I want to replace them, but the tubs and shower enclosure are fine. I was under the impression that you can just buy the replacement fixtures, remove the old ones and put in the new, but someone said you have to get behind the shower wall itself, which sounds way too complicated. Any input?

The bathtub faucet is at a steady drip and no matter how tight you turn the hot and cold it still drips. It is causing the floor to get soaking wet.

We have a standard, two-car garage with an old, steel, tilt-up garage door. The previous owner built an un-permitted room along one side of the garage which prevents us from simply installing a tracked, roll-up garage door.

The problem has escalated because my wife's new car is just 1.5 inches too tall for our old, bent garage door!

Our first option is to replace the old one with a new, straight tilt-up, which would give us enough height for the car.

My question is, why doesn't anyone sell/install residential roll-up garage doors that completely roll up into themselves, like you often see on commercial garages and warehouses? That would certainly solve our problems.

Anyone know of anyone who does this in Southern California?

I've got a Kenmore dishwasher in my kitchen, and we've been having problems for a bit. The bottom won't clean very well- sometimes it takes several washes for the dishes to get clean- and the top won't clean at all. Sears is being stupid and won't come out to repair it without us calling their troubleshooting people (who have been no help in the past)... meanwhile, we have no silverware (won't come clean), and it's become a never ending battle. Is there anything I can do to help remedy it until Sears gets off their duffs and helps us? The thing's under warranty...
