Mice could die in the walls or attic resulting in odor problem so use traps.Trapping indoors is the preferred method since dead mice can be easily removed. There are several types of traps available. The most common and inexpensive trap is a wooden "snap trap." There are two sizes available. The smaller of the two is designed for mice. It is very important to choose the proper size trap. Several traps should be set to maximize trapping effectiveness. Multiple catch live traps (example Tin CatÒ) can be used as alternatives for snap traps.
Several types of bait can be used: peanut butter, moistened oatmeal, grain, nuts, or fruit slices are often effective. For best results, try using several different baits to see which is best accepted. Placement of traps is crucial for effective trapping.
Traps should be placed in areas where mice or droppings have been seen.

The mice are there because opportunity for food and shelter. Get rid of all the possible food sources. Use traps and monitor them twice a day. A clean house is what it takes. then the $1.39 traps at home depot. Poisons just put the mice stinking where you can not find the smell.

I've had great success with this live trap in my house:
http://veganstore.com/index.html?stocknumber=266
It’s also available for $2 cheaper here (although I prefer to buy it from the other place since I’m not a big fan of PETA):

I've caught over a dozen mice with it so far and it can be used over and over indefinitely. Or, you can try making the free homemade humane trap described here:
http://www.helpinganimals.com/wildlife_livingWithMice.asp
If you do live trap mice, please be sure to check the traps several times a day and release the mice promptly, approximately a mile away from your home, preferably in an area with some sheltering bushes. It is much more cruel to allow a mouse in a live trap to slowly starve to death than to kill it quickly with a snap trap.
If you are not willing to check the traps every day, you can use snap traps instead. If you do use them, it's a good idea to orient the mice so they go into the traps straight. This will help ensure that they are killed rather than just maimed. Put the trap, business side facing out, into a plastic flowerpot with one side cut off so the pot sits flat on its side, like a cave. Make sure the trap has enough room to snap freely. Of course, you still run the risk of having a mouse painfully caught by his leg, which he may try to gnaw off, or severely injured but not killed. I wouldn't use snap traps myself.
The absolute cruelest traps are glue traps. Mice have been known to gnaw off their own limbs and tear off their skin in an effort to escape, as they starve or dehydrate to death or suffocate in the glue. It can take three to five days for them to die. Poison isn't any better, as the mice die slowly and painfully from internal bleeding. It can take up to a week for them to die, and then they smell as they rot behind your walls.
It doesn't take much extra effort to be kind. You will feel better and so will the mice! Good luck!

Seriously, a big cat is your best bet, if you put poison out they will die in your attic and stink up the house something awful. The other young lady is absolutely correct, your pregnant wife should never go near a kitty litter box. I don't remember what it does to the baby, but I do know that it's very harmful to your unborn child. Kitty needs to stay out side.

Rat blocks from an ag supply. They can be nailed in place to any wooden area and are much better than mouse poison. They are not spray so wouldn't affect your wife as they are only effective if consumed.
