The bathtub faucet is at a steady drip and no matter how tight you turn the hot and cold it still drips. It is causing the floor to get soaking wet.

Change the washer. Ask at a hardware store for the type of washer you need. Turn the water off at the mains, unscrew the tap, remove the old washer, put in the new one, screw the tap back on again and turn the water on.

Scott, Take a phillips screwdriver and remove the handle. Now what you see is a brass Thingamajig that you can put a wrench on . It has the shape of a nut. shut off the water at the valve leading to the tub or go to the basement and close the valve coming into the house. Now that you have loosened this thing with a 5 cornered edge back it off and you will see when its out a little rubber ring held in place with a screw. Unscrew it and go to a local small hardware store with the fitting you removed and they will give you a washer to replace it . Then just reverse directions to reinstall the brass thingamgig and reinstall the handle and its fixed . Plumbing leaks are easy to fix. If you notice a white powdery substance around the rubber wsher just soak the whole thing with white vinigar and it will disolve the mineral deposits. Use a round wire brush to clean out the place where the rubber washer goes (Cost is about $2.00 for the brush)

The cartridges contained in the handles are lengthy gone so that's particularly a lot an identical as if the tap might want to leak. you want to close off the water from below the sink and then pop the cap off the handles and take out the cartridge and convey it to the ironmongery save and are available across a change. Oh yeah when you close off the water below the sink turn on the bathtub tap in the previous you're taking out the cartridge. it is going to likely be particular the water is off yet to boot you'd be in a position to get the cartridge out a lot less complicated. I wager ya they're Emco taps are not they?
