Depends on how old the plumbing is in the house. Older homes from the 1900's-1940's may require going into the wall itself to replace the heads and drain handles etc. However, if the home was constructed after 1950 you shouldn't have to do this. You can go to any hardware supply source and purchase new hardware and install yourself. The directions for installation come with every box of hardware. Also, pick up some teflon tape and tape the threads of the male fittings this will ensure there are no leaks after installation.
I just upgraded my sink, bathtub, shower fittings on a house built 3 years ago. Peerless, makes a good product, don't buy the cheap stuff get a good quality brand of hardware for this project.

Yes!! I replaced the shower fixtures in my house when I bought it. I never had to get behind the wall because I just unscrewed the tub faucet from the wall with a plumbers wrench and unscrewed both the hot & cold handles with a screwdriver. It's pretty simple. These outside fixtures should be attached to the pipes and replacements should just screw back on.

after watching a couple episodes of "ask this old house", it's possible to change them without major construction. it's pretty easy to replace the shower because you just have to unscrew the old one and screw on the new one. as for the faucet, if it's a name brand (ie: moen) then you can go to a specialty plumber store to buy a replacement.

Unless you need to replace the pipes just get new fixtures and then make sure you turn the water off and switch them out.

Any time to start fooling around with old plumbing you run into multiple problems. Just hire a good licensed plumber to do the job and you will be far better off.

It is about every part can be replaced. My tubing needs welding. That was the only thing I needed a handyman to do.
Talk to home depot salesman.

I think it might be a good idea to turn off the water before you replace any of that stuff.
