I live in a small 900 sq. ft. home. My heat pump quit working and now I am using small space heaters which seem to heat my home better than the heat pump. I am using a total of 3 1500 watt electric space heaters that cut on and off according to degree of temperature in my home. I don't want to make my electric bill sky rocket, so I am trying to decide whether to go ahead and get my heat pump serviced or to wait and keep using the small heaters. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

When I replaced the battery in a PIR, the Pir still did not work. There is a length of stiff wire in the Pir, is this a tamper device? If so how do I overcome it?

My apartment building must have been built in the 1960s or so. I doubt there is much insulation in the walls. I put window film on the windows as they leak so much air it is pathetic. Any ideas on what to do with the walls? I was wondering if I purchased sheets of the foam insulation, for example at Home Depot - you know the thin blue foam sheets - and put them up on the inside of the exterior walls - would that help any? My desk is next to an exterior wall and there is LITERALLY a cold draft coming off the wall -

I have to pay for heat but apartment management won't let me install a programmable thermostat and obviously they are not going to do anything about the insulation or the windows.

Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

Our roof is very large (2 pitches) and is 150 years old. The problem is we keep losing slates and then having to do massive internal repairs because of the damage caused. My question is should we get the whole roof replaced? I dont know what our other options are - can a roof be sealed?

I am looking at having the flat roof on our extension replaced with a pitched one. How much should a chartered surveyor charge for preparing the plans etc for the work?

We bought a 110 year old house 3 years ago and were told at the time that there was some rising damp. I've a friend who's recently had this done and its expensive! With 2 kids I'm looking at ways of doing it myself, but wondered what people's experience is...

I'm wanting to form 1/2" OD soft copper tubing into a pretty tight coil, with the coil having approximately 3 1/2 " outside diameter. I plan on using a piece of conduit of the appropriate size to wrap the tubing around to attain the coil diameter I want. I also have an appropriately sized coil spring tubing bender to help. Wondering if anyone has done this successfully before and/or have any suggestions to ensure I don't collapse the tubing during the process.

I blead, and serviced the radiators, as I do every year. The furnace is in excellent condition, but cannot seem to find the problem. I did however, recently rehabbed my basement apartment and had the radiators removed from the basement. (Installed wall heaters) Could this have been the cause of the problem?

Assuming the heater runs at maximum capacity (10,000 btus).

Is there any conversion available that I can do other calculations(e.g. ho long 20 lbs of propane will last for a 30,000 btu heater)

Hope this makes sense! Tahnks for your help!

I have a Yard Machines 3.5 HP single-stage snow thrower with a 2-cycle engine. It has been tempermental this winter (and last) but pretty much follows a very odd trend. After I get it started, which may take some effort, it will run fine for about 5 minutes. Then it bogs down like the choke somehow got flipped on and it will eventually die. I have checked the choke many, many, many times, with no result. If I let it sit and cool off for 5-10 minutes, it will (sometimes) start back up and then will do the same thing after about 5 minutes.

WHAT IS UP WITH THIS ENGINE? I can't figure it out.
