if it's an older one with a pilot light turn off the gas otherwise if it a newer one that ignites with a spark don't worry about it.

Carbonmonoxide is the least of your worries if gas is leaking into the apartment - a small spark will cause the place to explode if enough gas builds up.

You might want to keep a window open near your bed.

If your gas stove (assuming it is a kitchen stove?) stopped working it is important to check to see if the pilot light is still burning, if it isn't you should open up your windows and front door to make sure your place it aired out for a little while, then attempt to restart the pilot light to see if you are getting any gas running through the pilot. If so, you need to get the gas to the stove turned off until it can get fixed.

If you are unsure about looking at the pilot light yourself, get your building manager up there asap, if you can't get them, be on the safe side and call the non emergency number to your local fire department, they may have someone that can help you with it or talk you through it.

Last thing you want to do is light a match when you are unsure about if you have a natural gas leak or build up. If you smell anything funny smelling or that smells like rotten eggs or sulfur, GET OUT right away that is usually a gas leak. You can also pick up a carbon-monoxide detector at most hardware stores and even target and walmart. They plug into your electrical outlets and will beep to let you know you have something going on.

The problem is not carbon monoxide because you would need to have the burners lit (but not properly adjusted) for that to occur.

The danger is that you are filling your house with gas which could explode when it finds a spark from a light switch or the furnace.

Call the gas company and report it as an emergency telling them you are afraid of an explosion. Also call the fire department and tell them about it.

Carbon-monoxide comes from the burning of fuel,e.g. gas, wood, etc. If your stove is not lit, than you should be fine.

Just shut off the gas under the stove. A ball valve or stop should be under your stove.

There is no danger of this if it is only non working one. what the worse if there is leaking of hose but it is another story to be answered. i think carbon-monoxide could only exist if more days came and when it is ruin.

No. And as long as your pilot light is still on you should be fine. If you pilot light is out then you should air out your apartment as best as you can. Use a fan near the stove. Then try to relight your pilot.
