Hi there,

When I turned on the furnance at my home, I noticed a smell, like the motor was burning out. Upon further investigation, the motor sure enough wasn't running and it was smoking alittle. After I played with it for a while, it starting working again. Anyway, is ther something I can do to fix the motor myself, or is it burned out. Also, do you know how much it would cost to get a new one. Thank you.

One morning I tried to use the microwave that is installed over the Range/Stove, the microsave ran for a few seconds before it suddenly stopped. I tested the outlet and found out there is no electricity in the wire. In attemptting to fix, I've tried the following things:
1. Checked all the curcuit breakers in the basement and they are all on.
2. Pushed the reset button next to stove.
3. Replaced the old outlet with a new one.

None of the above fixed the problem. What else can I do before calling an electrician? Thanks very much!!

My house is made of concrete and in the last weeks the roof is beginning to crack pretty hard and in the same spots (3 different places around the house). My question is if this is normal or if I am in danger of having the roof falling. I live in the top part of a duplex, there is absolutely anything on the roof, and we cannot see any cracks.
Any good advice will be welcome.

I do worry about furnace due to its age and about plumbling since I had this problem before and was expensive to get fixed. What do you think? Thanks.

I have a lawnmower that doesnt run but yet is brand new. It has been sitting for about one year and I am sure that has something to do with it. Can anyone assist me with the steps I will need to do in order to get it running? I dont think that it will be a lot of hard work but I still need some direction. What has to be wrong with a house in order for inspectors to condemn the house. Can it include floors or roofs not structurally sound? What about plumbing?

Hello,

When I turn on my heat in the house, I notice a stong smoky smell coming from the vents. This is the same smell that comes out when you have turned on the heat for the first time after being off all summer, however, it's not the first time I turned it on this season. What is that smell, is it dangerous, maybe hidden carbon monoxide, or something caught in the chimney. Thanks so much!

We purchased our house a year ago and the previous owners got the furnace cleaned every year. I have forgotten about it until last night when we turned on the heat! Should I have the furnace cleaned now? Or wait until spring when we stop using it?

I rent a home and we are not allowed to use plastic on our windows. Some of the windows are old, and leak air really bad. I tried weather strips last year but it didnt really work so well. Any suggestions? Should I use the plastic anyways? The window in my kids room makes a terrible hissing sound from the wind. Also some of the windows dont have storm doors on them. The newer windows are fine but the old ones are terrible they leak where the window shuts and hits the sill. Please help froze our butts off last year, and lost a bunch of heat and money. Thanks in advance.

Hello all. I do apologize if I am on the wrong site for this. Should I continue to pay rent? It has been raining inside my apartment for sometime now, of course, when it rains outside. My landlord keeps putting off fixing it and sometimes says he just can't find the problem. I put several buckets around the apt. as it is not a major problem for me yet. I do not have to run back and forth emptying the buckets but it has gotten a lot worse. Someone told me to withhold rent until it is fixed. Believe it or not, someone at the health dept. said they didn't know. Landlord took pictures 2 months ago for his ins. (he believes my apt. falls under his house insurance.) Sorry again if I am in the wrong area here. Appreciate any input. Thank you.
