Hi there,

When I turned on the furnance at my home, I noticed a smell, like the motor was burning out. Upon further investigation, the motor sure enough wasn't running and it was smoking alittle. After I played with it for a while, it starting working again. Anyway, is ther something I can do to fix the motor myself, or is it burned out. Also, do you know how much it would cost to get a new one. Thank you.

there are a couple of things to tell you about doing it yourself.
if you have to guess, get a professional.
1. MARK THE WIRES BEFORE you undo anything.
2) DO NOT HIT THE END OF THE SHAFT of the blower motor.
or else you'll really have to bring out an arsenal of tools
3) clean the blower wheel and housing while your at it.

and bring the old motor with you when you buy the new one, that way they can cross referance different makes and size the "BELLY BAND" accordingly.
the new one may require a run capacitor

about 1/2 of the time the motor is good and the motor capicator is bad. the capicator costs about 15. wholesale and the motor can be as low as 50. of course the repair cost by a repairman will be over 300. If you have a meter you can check the capicator otherwise just replace it first if that is your capability. the motor replacement can be done by you if you are mechanically inclined and have the tools.

You should replace the motor, or have it replaced. There's very little you can do to fix it, short of re-winding it, which costs as much as a new one. If its smoking and overheating, you're lucky you were home and not asleep.
