What could cause this & can I fix the problem myself without hiring someone? Please help, I have a dissabled child that lives in my home with breathing problems, so it needs to be fixed ASAP. Thanks.

I just moved into my beautiful new home. My younger sister came over to see it, and her piece of junk car leaked oil on my brand new driveway!! Yuck!

It's an electric dryer. I got it used from a co-worker's son. They thought it needed an element, and since it wasn't drying at all, I bought one and my boyfriend installed it. Then it still didn't work, so I replaced the thermostat because it looked blown. I replaced it myself (actually there are two thermostats). They didn't come with wiring directions, but it seemed pretty straightforward because one of the pieces would only work in a certain spot. So they can't be in the wrong place. The dryer ran for one load to get dry (maybe 40 mins). The next morning, I was 20 mins into drying my comforter and it just stopped. When I touched the outside of the dryer, it was very hot. I checked the breaker and made sure it wasn't tripped. I even turned it off and then on again to check. Still nothing. I let it cool for several hours while I was at work, and still nothing. The door switch is fine too.

The reason I'm asking this question is because the the people that build my apartpart used sheetrock as a tile backer back in the mid-seventies which is a true sign of poor workwanship and I need to tell my maintenance man what they should have used because I know they did't have Durarock or Hardibacker back then.
Thanks,
Brian

I moved from Buffalo, NY where cockroaches are far and few between. These things down here are HUGE. I have only found one in the house and it was on its back in the morning (not sure why? it was still alive) But mostly they bother me when I am trying to sit on my patio. Is there a trap I can buy or something to keep my kitchen and porch clean?

Oddly, this place is up high where no water reaches, but I think there is mildew there. I've tried a couple different primers over the years. I have the same flaking problem on a kitchen wall. The house is 82 years old and I live in the South (VA) where humidity is high...? Thanks for any advice.
