Yes, but you need a special type for fans, it works opposite of a lighting dimmer. On a fan dimmer the power comes on at full speed when you turn on the dimmer, then reduces the speed as you turn the knob. This makes it easier on the fan motor at start-up with full power. Lighting dimmers come on at low power then increase as you turn the knob. If the light and fan are already on separate switches, a dimmer can be installed on both. Or you can purchase at Home Depot a wireless controller, That's what I have.

yes you can install a dimmer switch on a ceiling fan. But what you need to do is check to see if you have the proper wires. You need 2 separte set of wire. One will be for the light and one will be for the fan. If you do not have this. The dimmer will control the speed of the fan and it will dim the light. You also will get a little humming noise from the fan motor. What else you can do is install a remote control from home depot. This will let you do both thing separtely. but you still might get a hummeing sound. Also make sure you have normal bulbs nit specials spiral bulbs. because these will not dim. Then it will cause damage to the light bulb or even the fan light switch.

If there is an existing switch that controls the fan, yes you can. Dimmer switches work very well for ceiling fans and it is a great idea.

Yes, just follow the instructions that come w/ the switch. I recomend you get the switch from the same place you bought the fan. If that isn't possable, go to your local Home Depot and they can advize you further.
