What is the best color to use ?
2- Who makes the best shingle ?
I got a light color on the house and for some reason it got dirty looking or dark in places

its changing because of the sun...I would try a timberline. And they have many colors to choose from get a sample from a building supply store and pick out a color to match your house... Best of luck

depends on what color your house is. i would use whatever color will look the best as the color doesn't effect any properties of the shingle or the heat in the attic. you may want an algae resistan shingle if that is what is causing the discoloration. also any protrusions in the roof that are metal will cause discoloration from the water running off the metal and down your shingles. most shingle manufacturers use exactly the same products from the same plants (all granules are the same thing) so one manuf. isn't better than another. the higher year warranty will give you a better shingle. a 30 yr. shingle isn't as thick as a 50 yr. shingle.

that might be mold on your shingles so you probably have a moisture problem. I think light colors are best to deflect the heat. I'm not sure who makes the best shingles, but Corning is one brand I've heard alot about.

Dark shingles look good, but also check out the slate roofing that has a 50 yr warranty.

Go to the website for Certainteed or GAF shingles and use their utility that lets you see the effect of changing your shingle colors.

get a GAF 3D type shingles any color you like. color want make much different as long as your attic is insulated good. this type sure looks good too.

light color ones reflect heat best during the summer time.
forget cosmetics. The heat displacement is much more important than looks.
