Does it keep going off when there's no smoke around? Our mains wired one only goes off when I'm cooking sausages with the door open! If it's just going off on its own then call out an electrician maybe?

I am having the same problem with mine, except they have a battery backup. This afternoon I tested all the alarms, replaced the battery in the one that wouldn't work, then ended up having to go the circuit breaker and cut the power off and back on. So far so good - and they don't appear to be flashing red at me any longer. Hopefully, they are fixed!
My Mom suggested calling the fire department and asking them to come test the smoke detector. That way you would know if it is the wiring, battery, or a faulty alarm. I am going to try that next if mine start beeping again!

I have never seen a smoke detector that doesn't require a battery. You may have a smoke detector that is hard wired but it should still have a battery back up. You should take it down and check the back of it for a battery compartment. Also if it was wired properly every smoke detector in your house should be beeping. If they aren't your smoke detectors have not been wired correctly or out dated.

two things:
1. replace it
2. buy a battery operated one install it beside the hard wired one.
If a fire occurs effecting the electrical circuits then you could loose the detector before it goes off.

If you have a reset facility on it then use this.Otherwise try switching off the electrical feed to it and switching back on again after a few minutes. Good luck.

If the reset button doesn't work, replace it. The sensor has become screwed up, by ciggy smoke, dust, chip fat or something like that

The mains supply may have been disrupted. It may have a reset. Otherwise, it could have become faulty.
