I have a John Deere STX 38 lawn tractor and it stopped clicking when I tried to start it after I charged the battery. It clicked when I turned the key and the battery was dead.

Yes, but the starter may have been the problem all a long. Take the starter to a parts supplier and have it tested.

The battery could be bad or the battery terminals or cable ends are dirty/corroded and need cleaning or replaced. Have you tried jump starting it?

that sounds like the starter solenoid it should be mounted on the fire wall on the same side that your starter is on

test the selonoid, more than likely thats your problem when you hear the clicking
