What is going on? Do you really mean septic?
You may be thinking of a sump pump. You CAN NOT buy a septic pump at a hardware store and not for $75.00. Expect to pay a few hundred bucks for one. We paid $1600 for one last year.

Sometimes septic pumps have a reset button on them and need reset. I bought a very nice septic pump for under seventy-five dollars on ebay shipping included. I think I paid around thirty-six dollars. I had to buy one with a verticle float so that it would fit in the small hole I have. some of the floats extend out quite far and you need to make sure it will fit. They range in price. Mostly under one hundred dollars.

Are you talking septic tank? If so, you are supposed to have them pumped out every two years to keep the tank healthy and not overload the leechfield. If it is a pump in your house, I suggest you get a plumber in to check it out for you. Either way, you have a really s****y problem on your hands.

It probably needs to be taken out and cleaned and serviced. It could be that the float is stuck. Any plumber can service this for you.
